Dartmouth College Class of 2022 ED Discussion!

@Fingerscrossed17 Just spoke with my counselor. She said that if you dont submit grades and they ask for them, it means that they are prob on the fence about your application and are unsure of whether to admit you. She said that if they dont ask, it usually means that you are a definite yes or no, or they have agreed that you are a maybe in committee. So stressed.

@reinian18 There has been talk of increasing the undergrad student body by 25% at some point in the future, but as of now the college doesn’t have enough housing to support a larger student body. I doubt the class of 2022 would be any larger than the average class.

Also since there are so many recruited athletes (that all apply early), they want to keep their early admissions rate down and not super high, so they defer 5-10% that almost always get in regular (says so on their website that deferred typically get admitted regular decision). Just a heads up not to get upset if you are deferred. And GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE

How do you even know if Dartmouth asked your counselor for first quarter grades?

I am nervous I even can’t scroll through this page. Thinking about this things aches me :(((

@alex2901 When I read on here that people got requests for their first quarter grades I went down to my guidance counselors office and asked her. They had requested them for me, but she hadn’t told me yet. Your counselor just might not have told you.

does anyone have data on how many internationals apply to Dartmouth ED and how many typically get in?

@rajapablo Last year according to the figures reported by the admissions factbook 17% of total applicants were international and 9% of the final enrolled class for 2021 was international. I can’t seem to locate information on how many were accepted but here’s a link so you can look around a bit more: (https://www.dartmouth.edu/~oir/data-reporting/factbook/admissions.html)

@vanillagurlll To clarify on applicants who are deferred from ED—the website says that typically 5-10 percent of those applicants are accepted in RD. Also, in terms of a possible increase in the student body, an enrollment task force is studying the issue of whether to expand the student body from 10-25 percent. If this is implemented (and there appears to be widespread opposition to the plan from students and alums), it would be years off. There simply isn’t the infrastructure to accommodate this. And given the higher than expected yield from last year’s class and the housing difficulties that’s caused, I would expect the college is going to be very careful about the numbers it admits this year.

@TTdd16 Do you think that the college “being careful about the number it admits this year” is going to affect the regular decision round and those admitted then more than those applying early?

My statement about being careful was completely a guess on my part and is based only on common sense and no actual knowledge. When you have such a high yield that undergraduates have to be moved to graduate housing, it makes sense that admissions would be very careful not to accept too many students the following year. But I don’t work for admissions and know nothing about their strategies regarding ED/RD.

Just wishing you all well and hope you stay busy and not worry too much before decisions are announced next week.

Does anyone have an idea of when Dartmouth will release the notification day/time? And sort of random, but what date do they likely make final decisions?

@politicsdancegal They’ll probably release the notification day/time by the end of this week or at latest Monday. Earlier in the thread one of the alumni interviewers said that usually they send out an email detailing it about a week or 5 days in advance of the decisions being released online. Another individual said that they got an email saying that decisions would be released “late next week”.

Hey everyone! I realized how worked up and stressed I was getting, constantly checking the website and college confidential, looking up videos, and investing so much time into concerning myself about the decision. I bet many of you feel the same as me, because Dartmouth is our dream school! We should all just take a deep breath and enjoy the little things in life other than one decision right now, such as the holidays! Cherish time with friends, family, and spend time outdoors. Make sure you are getting enough sleep by managing your time well. Have fun with your sports and clubs. Take in as much as you can in your classes. Eat well, hydrate a ton. Most of all, be happy!

Does anyone know when Dartmouth officially stops reviewing applications? I am working on a research paper that I would like to upload to my application later this week (probably Friday), but I’m not sure if Dartmouth will even consider it as part of my application by then.

Hey, all! I, like all of you, have applied Early Decision to Dartmouth College! I wish you all luck!

My kid received invitation to Dartmouth Club luncheon event for 12/14 which I’ve heard is supposed to be notification date. WHY on earth would they have it that day!? Cruel joke, I think. Invite says it that receiving the invite or attending has nothing to do with admissions. On the Dartmouth Club website, however, it says to the alums that the event is to introduce 2022 admitted students. What the heck! Has anyone heard about this?

@maybeDmom Yeah, Chicago, right? If that is the case then decisions would have to be on the 13th. Otherwise it would be a pretty cruel joke indeed.

Do you think they invited only those who were going to be accepted?
