According to the comman data set, D took 4 students out of roughly 800 transfer applicants. It was BRUTAL.
@ZZ1999T this year??
@skiergirl34 last year. Decisions aren’t out yet. his comment was pretty out of the blue and distasteful.
@ZZ1999T yeah what are you talking about, I don’t get it
@IndirectProofs idk man, it was so out of nowhere and HOPEFULLY unintentionally discouraging. Keep your heads up ladies and gentlemen!
Last year was really unusual for transfer admissions numbers-wise so I doubt it would be that low again this year! It’s not over til it’s over, so we should all stay cautiously optimistic!!
hopefully a lot of transfers are accepted this year
Yeah, and again, last year D admissions enrolled the LARGEST class EVER in Dartmouth’s entire history, so there was literally no room for transfers and they didn’t even go to the waiting list for regular decision candidates.
This year they were very selective, thinking they would have a high percentage of accepted students actually enroll. Hopefully they overestimated enrollment and they can take some extra transfers. Stay hopeful! I believe the numbers are in our favor this year, folks.
I know we all have our own reasons for loving the college on the hill, but at the end of the day, remember that your self worth doesn’t come from a stamp on your diploma, and that you are worth so much more than where you went to school. I just wanted to make sure you guys knew that <3
It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish, so let’s finish this wait out strong.
I wish I could just fall asleep and then wake up when it’s time for admissions decisions to come out.
I know I’ve said this before, but the place I work has so many people who go to Ivy League schools, it is really going to be tough having to watch them go to schools like Harvard and Princeton for a whole additional year. It is literally like watching everyone else living your dream, and knowing that I have the same math talent as them, only I’m self taught, and have a poor prior college record that is the only thing keeping me out!
@IndirectProofs don’t lose hope! Also, I’ve been reading lots of posts and just want to share my story as a reminder of how arbitrary this whole process is. You guys are constantly comparing to kids lesser/with different backgrounds and being upset they got in over you—welcome to the game that unfortunately is admissions. We put our heart on the line every time we submit our applications, hoping that maybe this time we will get the validation we seek embedded in some prestigious name or Ivy League title. Trust me, I know how this feels. I spent four years at one of those New England boarding schools that the NYT can’t write an article on without juxtaposing “elite” directly before or after its name, it was one of those schools that you dream is the path to Harvard or Yale. And yet, I made top of my class and I do not go to an Ivy League school. My identical sister, however, does. Our experiences at our respective schools could not be more different but not once do I ever wish she were at any place less than she is currently. Do I help her with biology, psych, her research lab job etc. all the time? Yes. Do I think that makes her any less qualified or me any more salty that I don’t have an education like hers? No. What you are going through will make you stronger and teach you more than the girl I know who paid her way off Harvard’s waitlist (yes this still happens). Celebrate your accomplishments and don’t let a name or a simple two word response deter you from what is clearly an impressive application. Best of luck and chin up, everyone!
@IndirectProofs I agree with Ipapadakis 100%. It doesn’t matter, at least in long run, what school you went to. It’s about the talent. I share the same sentiment as you do. I go to a state school and come from a low-income family and the career I want(hint: my name) is full of Ivy league kids. I know it will be difficult to break in but the only thing matters is where you end up not where you start. I sort of have a feeling after what decision you wrote this post and let me tell you that even I got rejected from the same school which was my dream ivy. I am an immigrant so I started the race of college admissions when most people were halfway through it, and I wish that was the only disadvantage I had but it’s not. I still have hope that everything will work out in the end and somethings aren’t meant to happen (especially the admissions) so don’t let this discourage you. It might be little hard but it’s definitely not impossible.
I come from an extremely underprivileged family and I don’t have much resources to help me succeed in life. Slowly, I am proving all the statistics wrong and succeeding when I apparently should be uneducated and unemployed. That alone is a blessing and I don’t need an Ivy League school to validate that. Regardless, I will end up at a four year university soon and if it is Ivy League or not, I will still work hard and succeed. Ivy Leagues do not determine success. I determine my OWN success and all of you should too. Can’t wait to see decisions, regardless of rejection or acceptance !
@Futurelbanker/hfmanager and @lpapadakis thank you both so much for the thoughtful and encouraging responses. that’s nice of you both to share your stories with me. I appreciate it. I really enjoy having people to talk with during this time.
@lpapadakis I loved how you wrote, “Celebrate your accomplishments and don’t let a name or a simple two word response deter you from what is clearly an impressive application.” Thanks!
Well I thought last year’s transfer stat is worth mentioning so I brought it up. Sorry if anyone finds it horrifying. Last year was kind of unusual and hopefully this year Dartmouth will accept more transfers.
It is okay @ZZ1999T. I agree, hopefully this year is a better year for transfers.
I dunno that day, but I definitely feel decisions will be released after 5pm ET, because that’s when their office is closed. My bet is tomorrow or Friday, but I don’t think they’d go later than that.
@paulele24 I think it’s going to be this Friday as well. I can’t wait to get it over with!
Has anyone had any updates to their portal or any contact whatsoever from Dartmouth? Compared to the other ivys it seems like Dartmouth hasn’t reached out at all. Really hoping to hear back by the end of the week or at least get a date for when decisions will be released
@justsnooping nah bro, Dartmouth has completely been in the dark. They haven’t responded to my emails at all either.
I’ve been emailing back and forth with my AO since I was waitlisted RD last year, and she has always responded within 30 minutes unfailingly. However, I shot her an email a couple of days ago about potential release dates… and she’s been radio silent. So you’re not alone @kb199977
