Hey guys! I think I might be one of the first members of the Dartmouth Class of 2016. I applied as a '15, then deferred for a gap year (in Israel). Good luck to all of you, can’t wait for some of you to join me in counting down until the start of DOC trips. Only nine more months!

Do you guys think Dartmouth will have a school quota? It says no on their website, but my fellow ED applicants from my competitive public high school are far ahead in academics. (This is relative. Mine are still very good) My ECs are simple, yet focused. My schedule is extremely tailored towards my major, which shows “passion” about what I wish to study, right? Sorry to turn this into sort of a “chance me”.

zeniers, wrong favorite color. If it is not green, Dartmouth is not interested.
With your favorite color being cerulean, you might want to start thinking about Columbia.

Dontskip: Did you get accepted and then request to defer for a year? How did you handle that? i am considering a gap year depending on where acceptances come in.

Yeah, I applied RD, went to visit during Dimensions (the weekend for accepted prospective students, which I highly recommend to anyone), fell in love with the school, accepted their offer of admissions, and then sent a letter to Dean Laskaris requesting to defer for a gap year. The deferment process was fairly simple; you send a letter giving them a general idea of how you plan to spend your year, and they usually reply within two weeks. I guess it could potentially happen, but I don’t know of anyone who was denied their gap year request.

The '15s were the last class to which the Writing 5 exemptions apply. Starting with the '16s, every first-year student will be required to take Writing 5, followed by a first-year seminar.

My friend wrote this article for The D explaining the new Writing requirements. Hope that helps!

Also, a word of advice to all, since I remember far too well how freaked out I was in the week preceding admissions decisions: Try not to freak out too much! I was a walking zombie the week our decisions came out. All you can do is not worry about it too much. Try and put it out of your brain. Focus on the things happening in your life outside of applying to college. When the decision comes, it comes, and there’s really nothing you can do about it, so relax and enjoy high school while you’re still there.
Also just so you know: no matter what decision comes in your letter, you will probably cry. It happens, applying to college is emotional.
