Dartmouth ED Class of 2020

I am pretty undecided, but either econ or comp sci

I am kinda mad at myself for the major I picked!!! I was planning on applying for neuroscience but my dad convinced me to apply to thayer because he was like you are a minority female… that has to help your chances! so i ended up applying as engineering sciences. I didn’t do as well as I hoped on the math 2 subject test so that will definitely hurt me considering the major I picked. but if I do get in ill do an emphasis on neurobiology and maybe just transfer to normal neuroscience eventually

I don’t think that the Major you select affects your admission (I could be wrong), but even if it does and you are admitted, you have two years of class to explore and decide what it is you really want to do before committing.

I did biology and psychology. I never took a subject test in bio, so hopefully that doesn’t hurt my chances.

i put mathematics and social sciences for my top choice but i talked to my friend who is a freshman at dartmouth and she told me she doesn’t declare a major until the end of her sophomore year. right now, she’s taking classes in all different subjects but thinks she wants to start focusing on government

so i doubt the major you say you’re interested in on the application has any weight in your admittance

oh thank goodness

do a lot of you guys’ high schools factor +/- into gpa? I’ve always wondered that while lurking on CC’s results threads

Could you clarify? What do you mean?

like A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, etc

rather than the A = 4, B = 3 regardless of +/-

I’m just curious lol

Oh, I see. My school ranks on a 100-point system, so I wouldn’t know. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help, lol

Yes, my school factors in +/- @JARO10

Has anyone recently gotten any emails from Dartmouth about financial add, decisions, etc? I haven’t and I just want to make sure I’m not the only one.

Nope, I haven’t either. Eagerly awaiting some sort of notification

Same here - notificationless.

If anyone here receives any information about the ED notification date and time, post it. I’m sure we’re all waiting for it.

The Class of 2019 got the email confirming the release date on Monday. Maybe, we will see something similar happen. If the email is sent on Monday, than we will probably see decisions next Friday.

One week left if the decisions, hopefully, come out on the 11th.

I’m struggling with Extracurricular Activities (well, just one of mine, actually). I’m a fencer and have been for several years. I studied under two former Olympic Alternates and worked for up to 7hrs/week year-round, including one or two summers, (or more) for several years. Unfortunately, my coaches retired and the only other club in town offers a weapon I don’t specialize in. I still train regularly and go out of town for tournaments (last one was in Tucson, AZ one month ago or so) but can no longer spend the 7hrs with official supervision. I teach myself, learn from another fellow former student who won third in the JOs, and try to attend local meets (but my city boasts anywhere from 3-15 fencers total, depending on the night :-/). I wish the Common App had let me specify that I spent several hours a week training in the previous years and only 2 hours a week this year (if my teacher, who’s a student, is even free!), but instead I have to estimate: 4 hrs/week for all of HS, I think, averages out what I did Freshman-Junior Year with this Year, but I’m regretting even marking this year, to be honest, as I’m so scant in my practice, even if I do still compete regionally when I can. The fencing community has almost died in my city, despite what I’ve done to try and revive it.

Sorry, just had to vent.

hey guys good luck to everyone!
