Dartmouth ED Class of 2020

I guess you could stay here during off terms but you’d have to have a reason to I guess. Like research or another on campus opportunity. You would have to pay room and board for it as well.

@drrea2030 Thank you!!

Anyone have any advice on formatting and attaching an activities resume? Thanks!!

Do they send you an email if they have received all components of your application or should I call admissions to ask ?

@ambitious321 You should be able to check that in your Dartmouth Account when you gain access to it.

FYI guys: Dean of Admissions is doing a chat session on Facebook Thursday night! https://www.facebook.com/Dartmouth/photos/a.10151940695571125.1073741830.46974596124/10153617137461125/?type=3&theater

Son just submitted ED application. Legacy, almost perfect test scores and grades, so-so ECs. Let’s see what happens.

Just submitted my ED Application - incredibly excited to hear from the College!

Anyone else not received a confirmation of receipt from the College?

@SirPepsi I got a confirmation email with a login to their site about a day after I submitted the Common App. On their FAQ page it says it should come within 24 hours so if it’s been longer than that you should email them to check.

Yeah, I sent them an e-mail after the 24-hr mark passed, but I received the confirmation about 3 hours later, so all’s good.

Now I just hope my Subject Test Scores arrive in time - I paid for Rush Shipping, but the CB still says the order is pending. Hope to see you at Dartmouth, @norcaltraveler.

Is 990 words too long for the Dartmouth Supplement?

@gearsstudio I would definitely say yes. Im pretty sure it says the supplement is supposed to be a paragraph to a page in length,

Trying to decide between Dartmouth ED and Princeton SCEA. :-/

Low-income Hispanic with 2290 SAT score, 3.88 GPA, national awards, state-level leadership, etc. Might go with the latter just to keep my options open, but I definitely feel like I’d fit well at Dartmouth.

@ALibertarian Go with Princeton SCEA. You can apply to Dartmouth and other schools RD all you want even if you get accepted by Princeton. But if you do ED Dartmouth your options are much less.

I agree with gearsstudio. If you’re not sure which school is your first choice then you should do SCEA because it’s not binding.

My supplement was approximately 550 words - just write something meaningful to you. If it’s genuine, it might just show through and wow the Admissions Committee.

Screw it, I’m submitting a 1000 word essay as my Dartmouth supplement. I simply can’t shorten it without reducing its appeal.

^^ There’s the old saying that there’s no such thing as good writing, only good rewriting. 1000 words is way too long. If you can’t say in 500- 650 words then you’re doing something wrong (especially since everyone else can). I’ve found from experience through the essays I’ve seen most can be significantly pruned and actually end up being much more effective. Less is more. You run the risk of having an AO read your file as their 24th of the day and the 1000 word essay just makes their eyes glaze over as they question your lack of judgement.

@Falcon1 I’ll try to condense it as much as possible. Do you think 750 words will do?
