I am also a regional level swimmer and a very strong Debater and public speaker. I chair Model United Nations too.
@Raamael Your EC’s are impressive but your ACT will probably hurt your chances considering the athletes even have to get a 30 ACT but they look at every app with a holistic view so never give up!
@Raamael Did you apply to Stanford?
The countdown begins…

No. I got into their summer school with like 4% acceptance rate for internationals
@anonymous1998 the thing is that if they do check holistically then other great stuff can cover that. No?
you did well on your subject tests though! I mean none of us are experts but I would say you still have a pretty good chance. it’s all kind of up in the air though… did you apply for financial aid? @Raamael
@lexiii17 thats another thing which worries me cuz i am asking for Financial aid. Lets hope for the best to be honest. Been a life long thing tbh and tbh we dont have any proper sources of these standardised tests either so its pretty hard. Lets see how it shapes up in the end.
@Raamael Other great stuff helps but does not cover it. Pretty sure Dartmouth requires you to be exceptional in every aspect of your application but like I said, it seems like you still have a good chance because of your ECs! Be positive!
@annonymous1998 true. Lets hope for the best. Gave December ACT and pretty sure score is going up by 4 points minimum.
Colgate is my ED2 so lets hope they ll take me if not Dartmouth haha
@Raamael I would definitely apply to stanford since you did a summer program there! I had a family friend who got in with a 29 last year & from what I could gather none of his EC’s were that impressive. plus stanford will super-score your ACT unlike dartmouth
@anonymous1998 Yo where’d you get the info about athlete minimums? I’m pretty curious because I have admissions support from a coach and have a 2250 SAT but I got a a not so goo grade in a class last year. Thanks!
What is everyone planning to do on Wednesday? I might distract myself with movies and baking (so that I can eat the cookies if things go South)
I’m going to the gym, so that way I’ll be able to work through the pain or joy.
I found out my mom won’t be home when decisions come out and I’m honestly so relieved. I would be 1000x more nervous if she were standing right behind me.
@PhillytoHanover one of my friends had a 29 on act and was going to go for rowing but the coach said he wouldn’t get in because he never reached the 30 on ACT. I’m sure it could be different for different athletes though
So are you guys saying there’s a certain threshold (30 ACT) that you have to reach before you can be fully ‘in the game’? Would you say that after this threshold is reached, there’s less of a weight on standardised testing, and more consideration given to the person?
I, personally, was under the impression that the process was more holistic (such as someone with 4.0GPA and 29ACT with outstanding essays and ECs would have as much chance as 3.7GPA 35ACT with 6/10 essays and little EC involvement – or something like that).
@strust98 All I know is that for my friend who was an athlete he had to get a 30 on his ACT but it could be different for different athletes. That was just in his case. I’m sure they do look holistically
well 25% of students accepted make less than or equal to a 30
@strust98 a 30 translates to around a 2050 on the SAT just btw
I’m starting to regret not retaking my 2200 (1410M+CR, 790W) - it was my first time taking the exam in HS, as I’d taken it for Duke in 7th grade or so (minimal prep then, practically no prep this time). So many of my friends scored lower than I did their first time (2060s, 2130s, etc.) and then proceeded to retake 2-3 times to shoot past me with 2310s, 2340s, etc.
I mean, I’ve got my 34 Composite (35E, 34R, 31M, 36S) on the ACT (could have retaken and tried to improve Math for a 35 Composite), but I’m now terribly nervous.
Each of my friends told me I was crazy to take the tests only once and without having prepped; I brushed it off, satisfied with my choice. I know I’ve gotta live with that (and I was happy to before), but now that decisions loom, I’m picking out the smallest things to mull over, wondering if there’s any little thing I coulda done to boost my chances.
