@quiver - I’m waiting only for Princeton & Dartmouth on 28th!! Haha!!

Mainly because they are 2 of my favorites. Also they are the only two with need blind admissions - which gives me some hope. (Though realistically Pton is out of the question as I’m way below the avg applicant!!)

@POMANI: Congratulations! Apparently you haven’t been awarded much FA. Are you considering attending anyway?
Oh and That would mean even my rejection letter is on the way, haha :P

@Raith: I’ve been rejected outright at 5 so far, and only accepted at my safety (#SIX :D). Don’t feel disheartened! Come Friday and hopefully we will have some good news to share.

Btw, I don’t think I will accept a position on the waitlist at Bryn Mawr. Anyone knows whether it will be worth it? They refuse to accept my FA documents, and it’s annoying.

@Lemming
Tough luck, but at worst you do have Duke xP terrible isn’t it? :P

@PO
Congrats… though I feel it will be the beginning of a great line of acceptances (your swimming definitely is on your side)

@Quiver
I am really looking forward to Dartmouth… more importantly Princeton though but I’ll get Cornell and UPenn on the same day (hopefully all acceptances though I doubt it) :P

But first things first… Duke tomorrow :s maybe I’ll join Lemming :P

@Keya
ouch 5! then again you have applied to a lot more than me hey? (me being 11… I still have a chance to get more acceptances than rejections… but not for long) :P

@keya - I received a letter telling me I wasn’t legible for ‘grant assistance’ but I have no idea what that means, I didn’t even see anything telling me how much my family needed to pay. I got $30,000 from Grinnell, so going from that to what seems like nothing from Pomona is very peculiar. It’s almost as if they forgot to include my financial aid packet. I’ll give them a call later.

@dbtocollege - They’re my top choice outside of Ivies, and therefore the most likely place I’ll end up, should I actually get financial aid and be rejected by the Ivies. Without financial aid I’m in a bit of a pickle :/

@Raith - I don’t think I’ve been recruited, but swimming was still a large part of my application in essays!

@PO
I don’t think you have been recruited completely, but I do think the coaches have maybe put your name through to admissions to help. Considering your times and really great swimming status you are likely to be partly recruited (Stevens has kinda for me… but my times aren’t fast enough at the moment) :P

Yea, I wanted to include swimming… but my initial essays didn’t sound very good… so I instead went for writing about my kite surfing (which actually sounds much more exciting!) :D

Yup I applied to 20 colleges. Before you ask, I have no idea how I did so many. I had all of my application fees waived, btw, so that really helped. :)

@PO: I asked because I’ve been told that Pomona is not all that generous with their aid, especially towards International students. I used to live in California when I was a kid, so yes, I have a soft spot for Pomona :’) My acceptance letter also did not mention the amount I will have to pay annually, but I opened my FA award and then used a calculator. Good luck with confronting the FA office!

I applied to 7 only…2 safeties 1 match and 4 reaches…But I don’t understand why people call universities reaches on the basis of a SAT score…when They(colleges) know that you are an international…That too without aid.:(

@Raith - I’ve heard conflicting views over what kind of support coaches can offer, usually it’s: ‘If the coach hasn’t mentioned it [he didn’t] then there is no assistance at all’ whereas others are like ‘they can kinda give you an unofficial push’ I don’t know which is true. I guess if I go there, I’ll ask the coach what kind of assistance, if any, I received.

@Keya - Really? I’ve also heard conflicting opinions over this. Some say that it is amazing (**************), others just seem frustrated with how little they’ve been given.

@dbtocollege - Thanks I’m phoning them as soon as they open like ‘yo, where is my money?’

Only when I told my Dad how much money I’d saved on applying, did he let me retake the SAT in December–and I’m very glad he did, because otherwise I’d never have reached that 2250 @Raith: This may be kind of personal, but does it ever bother you that you’ll be older than most other first years in US colleges?

@PO: Pomona is need-blind for US citizens and permanent residents.
The data on their website shows:

Range of Family Income Average Aid Package
0 - 20,000
53,300
20,001 - 40,000
51,700
40,001 - 60,000

60,001 - 80,000

140,001-160,000
23,100
However, for internationals, the Average Undergraduate Total Need-Based Aid: $38,307.00 (Princeton review)
You should work out whether you are legible for “grant assistance” from there. Just keep in mind that these are AVERAGE values, so you may still qualify for aid if your income exceeds $160,000.
Never mind.
Will decisions ever be out online??

@PO
Oh ok, fair enough I suppose (like I know I didn’t get any push what so ever… but they still seem happy enough to have me, but not fighting for me) :P

@Keya
Wow 2250… wish my english skills were better (770 on my math… my essay for the writing was a 7… only got 5 things wrong… CR was ok, wish I did better though)

Oddly enough I look forward to being older for a couple reasons;[ul]
[]I can buy booze at the beginning of my Sophmore year - I like wine a lot and making cocktails.
[]Helps slightly with girls (well in the idea that a lot of girls still don’t really enjoy going younger) :P[/ul]

Apart from that it doesn’t really phase me. Curious, but why do you think I might be bothered by it?
