There are a lot of research opportunities if you studied, have a Master (…). But as a High School student no one supports you. -.-

Why? What other majors do you have in mind? :D

Oh ok that really is a shame. I am hoping to get a position for a few weeks working with this one guy in South Africa who is involved with setting up the Square Kilometre Array (it will be the largest radio telescope in the world when it is completed!!) But nothing I know of here in Mauritius - especially not as an expatriate who doesn’t speak creole oh well

Well the sciences interest me too but I love the idea of psychology (never had many friends when I was much younger, so I made an effort to try understand people better)… so I already analyse why people act in the way they do, and sometimes I can predict or manipulate the situation… but I don’t completely agree with so many of the commonly accepted theories. Unfortunately, psychology is a pseudo-science in that no one can be 100% certain of anything really - which makes me uncomfortable. I like certainty

@Raith
Good luck!
I am currently on their website (The Square Kilometre Array), sounds really interesting! :)

Try the different majors and then choose the best fit. You are right, you can’t be 100% sure but because of that there will always be something you can do research on and never get bored.

@Sunny
The project (SKA) is amazing… not just the direct project… but it is helping to teach near by villages maths, english and other subjects, they have developed the dishes to be sustainable by using a special spray on plastic. It provides work for a lot of people. The nearby roads had to be improved to a decent standard… It is truly amazing what they are doing for the nearby communities and the world science community!

I like knowing that I was right though… it means that anything further that is based on my calculations/theories etc are all valid or are also true. But I definitely want to keep going, never stop learning or researching!

@Raith
That’s awesome. On what would you work? :)

Ok, yea I understand that. Hard decision to choose a major.

@Sunny
The guy told me that he would teach me to be a GIS - which involves statistical analysis of data into geographical regions. Essentially not too difficult, but after a little research, apparently most people have to be trained to be this position from some college/university… So I am thankful for the opportunity if I can get it organised completely. Hopefully he puts me in a more interesting job position though maybe helping with the analysis of the radio images?! ← I can dream ;)

Choosing a major is probably one of the hardest parts on university I think :P

@Raith
Great opportunity. Sometimes dreams come true :D

@Sunny
It definitely is a great opportunity (kinda surprised that he was ok with taking me on to be honest).
If dreams come true… I don’t want much… just to be accepted into all my top unis… from there I will work to get what I want! :P

@Sunny just usa , canada and england no way I’m gonna apply to italy Germany seems pretty good thou

@Raith
only at all your top universities? No you don’t want much
I am happy if I end up somewhere

@Penny
I don’t like German universities
May I ask you to which colleges/universities in the US besides of Dartmouth? :)

@Sunny
It isn’t asking for much a lot… yes, but not like a Nobel prize or anything xP
I’m sure you’ll get in somewhere (and hopefully be given aid too)… and HOPEFULLY Dartmouth!! :D

@Raith
I hope so, too. Hope you get into your dream schools as well ;)

I was just wondering did anyone apply to Yale? :D

@Raith Im a big COD player also, but I keep forgetting to update my PS3 so I’m restricted to offline play with my brother on FIFA :/

Just had my interview today…got me all “syked” for dartmouth…

How do you know If YOU have been given an ‘interview’…I really don’t know…

@Sunny
Thanks but night now I would be very happy with Dartmouth! (not my dream school, but good group of people here, beautiful region… and has everything that I do want out of a university) :)

@PO
Haha, update bro! In boarding we used to spend hours on COD story line and gun game (which was the best and worst type). We worked out all sorts of strategies for each map, everyone had a job

@Lemming
Well done! So I assume the interview went well? How about you share your interview experience for everyone? Give other people an idea of what they may expect from the interview.

@Quiver
You know if you have been given an interview as they will get hold of you by phone or email to set it up- check your junk email folder maybe (my interviewer went to my junk initially - sneaky hotmail!)

@quiver - No one I know from India got a Dartmouth interview yet!! :p

And they’ll probably send you a mail… Don’t worry though!! :)

thanks guys:) That’s a relief.

Well seems like I missed a lot of stuff, but at the pace this thread’s going its hard to not miss something haha, thats a compliment mind you :P

Grats Dart!
Aww Sunny, dont worry youll be going to a great uni come March/April ! :)

Hello Penny. Seeing your name reminds me of Kaley Cuoco from Big Bang lol :p

@Raith - lol. No bro, finished boards last year, taking a gap year. I was just on a soccer camp (fully sponsored) for 3 days at an Indian club.

Oh yes, you missed me, dont lie :P

@Blue
well things seem to have slowed down a little for the moment good to take a breather once in a while still pretty much top in the Dartmouth Forum - in terms of activity :D

Oh ok, cool. How did your Board exams go last year? How was the soccer camp? Best thing about going to school in the Southern Hemisphere is that if you go to uni in the northern, you get a “forced” almost gap year and can also send in your final results sooner than later :)

ok… yes Blue… we missed you! :P
