**Dartmouth International Applicant's Thread 2017**

@Raith - Nope. Sadly, I havent even heard of the Springbok shot :(

Ahahaha, well alcoholics are not bad. Youre not a frequent drinker are you?
Ive known drinkers and druggies who’ve made it to the top national unis here in India. And are very good people. So just the fact that someone drinks doesnt make them bad. Different people enjoy different things, its perfectly fine.

And, yeah a few times. One of my friends’ fathers even invited us over for a few drinks haha :p

Sunny12 - Bad scores? Can i join the club too, my score is PRETTY LOOOOW.

@Blue
That is a shame :confused: I’ll try make one for you if I can smuggle some Amarula into the country :P

Depends on what you consider frequent? Like sometimes I’ll have a glass of wine a day if I feel like it, sometimes I go months without any alcohol and I’m fine with it, and then I usually drink some shots etc when I am partying with friends.
I probably would count though as if I went out to dinner, I am used to having a bottle of wine at the table (or at least ordering by the glass for myself) - I love the pairing with the food.

@Raith - haha yeah thatd be great stuff :D

Thats not frequent in my book haha.
The best part is to listen to your friends’s emotional blabber when the alcohol gets to their head ahaha xD

I havent had wine yet :O

@guyinblue
You are welcome to join me :)

@Raith
10+ shots? I guess, I would just stagger around :D

@Blue
Good, though we will see if anything changes in uni (doubt it… though it looks like I will be buying everyone their alcohol from sophmore year :stuck_out_tongue: I’ll be 21 in that November)
Yea, the emotional blabber is the BEST! Though for some reason I am often the one making sure everyone is all right - even if I drank more than them xP

Haven’t had wine?! My friend, I will open up a whole new world to you! :D

@Sunny
Well that is when I can afford that many shots :stuck_out_tongue:
Staggering is fine, as long as you don’t pass out :)

@Guyinblue & Raith - Haha!! “Emotional Blabber” is the only thing that entertains, is free and you don’t have to do anything at all!! :p

@Raith - Did you start your schooling late/or drop a year or something?? Cause you’re like 2yrs(or maybe more) elder to me!! Haha!!

And 2 beers and you were out? and 10 vodka shots and you were tipsy??
^ LOL, that can only mean one of three things–

 1. You are weird bro!
 2. The beer bottles contained cognac or whiskey or both! :stuck_out_tongue:
 3. The Vodkas you’ve been drinking are non-alcoholic!! :)

@guyinblue - DJ eh? Nice!! :smiley:
A friend of mine’s been DJing since 9th std, quite the player one must say!! :stuck_out_tongue:
And almost 60% of high schoolers in India(especially in the metros) drink - or that is what I feel anyway — so yeah few of them do get into top universities in India & abroad!!

Anyway – all this “drinking” business is making this thread sound like an alcoholic’s forum!! :p

@goingtodart & Raith - I’m totally into renewable/alternative/non-polluting energy and stuff!! :smiley:
After 4 yrs at (hopefully) Dartmouth or anywhere else - I see myself specializing in something energy related - maybe research? maybe work with someone?
But then again, 4yrs is a long time!! And seeing how my interests have moved from cars to economics to ‘the army’(yes I’m patriotic - almost wrote the NDA exam) to ‘photography’ to ‘engineering & energy’ in the past few years, college is bound to change my mind again!! :)

How about you guys @ blue,sunny,caribgurl(WELCOME!!) and others??

Basically, if you don’t drink at 17 in the UK you’re a muslim (Or your name is POmani - not that I’m against drinking, I’m just an athlete so I tend to steer away from that scene)

@Rishav
True, this is starting to sound like an alcoholic’s forum… AA xP

Actually, what I have worked out is my body reacts badly to fermented hops (some vodkas I believe are also made from hops, which I was surprised to find out since I thought all of them were 100% potato).

In terms of my schooling- I started my schooling at 5 which is normal in South Africa - and my school career is 13 years long (the British A levels, or at least that is the way Mauritius does it). I lost some time when I went to South Africa to do my A Levels as Mauritius and South Africa have different scholastic calendars. (keep in mind that I just graduated in November too…)

@PO
Yea, true thing about the UK - but come on, the world’s best whiskeys come from the UK! And the whole pub culture!! :smiley: <3 love it! Game, pub grub and booze, and occasionally you may catch a glimpse of a stunner ;)

Oddly, apart from the gaining weight due to drinking too much, I find I actually perform a little better (probably cause I disregard any pain or discomfort). Like for swimming training, two of us from my club went to a night club till about 4 (pretty early for us) - she doesn’t drink at all though- training was at 11 in the morning and our warm up was an 800m medley… which I would normally have trouble with. In that instance, I found the 200m fly a breeze! Even though we did the medley in reverse :P

Um HIII I’m back…EXAMS HAVE STARTED:(
WHAT are we talking about? I don’t drink so… O.o

Welcome back Keya! Been a minute
Good luck with the exams! :slight_smile:
We’ve been talking bout all sorts of things since you left us :stuck_out_tongue: but yea, we got onto drinking as I noticed a couple posts about Caltech and MIT and thought it would be interesting to put them up here (or at least discuss them).
What subjects are you writing for your exams?

Slowly we are starting to cover the globe guys! A really great multi-lingual group of people :slight_smile:

GoingToDart (aka Dart) was accepted ED. We have re-established that a 2400 is better than a 2100, but maybe not as significantly as a difference between an 1800 and 2100… But due to the holistic application process we are still unable to make any completely true speculations.

We are becoming one of the most active threads (especially considering the relatively few number of active posters) - **WELL DONE GUYS!!! ** .

We have been discussing everything we can about Dartmouth (as well as other universities we are applying to occasionally). We also share information if we have been able to find it.

We are always welcoming new internationals - we don’t care about your marks or scores; just bring your personality and have some fun with us! :D

GO GREENS!!

****** Just a fun summary update ******

Say hi and post the following:
Name:
Country:
Hobbies/ECs:
And if you want… intended major:

@raith haha, your body was probably to preoccupied breaking down the alcohol to produce lactic acid. We could be upon the precipice of a major discovery: alcohol consumption = athletic achievement!

@PO
Haha! I think it mainly works for me :stuck_out_tongue: cause I also think a little better… call it luck, but after a bottle of red wine I played minesweeper on hard (I have pretty low stats for it btw)… but three games in a row I won… beating my previous times! :stuck_out_tongue: probably just a coincidence cause I don’t think there is much logical reason why this should happen (apart from alcohol maybe reducing your inhibitors in the way you think)… hmmm

@Raith and Rishav - Haha I know. Whenever my friends drink, I have to look after everyone, and be like “Hey man, dont do that, dont do this” and then when we all sit down, someone starts with “You know man, Ive been meaning to tell you this since forever, I blah blah insert emotional blabber”
The best part is that I remember all the talks since I am in control :stuck_out_tongue: haha

Also, haha sweet. Youll be bringing some bottles for us into campus then :smiley: :p

Also, I think everybody performs better atheletically under alcohol. I once ran the 200 x 4 relay after drinking red bull (called the “energy drink”) and actually did worse.
BUT when I ran a few hours after having vodka, oh god, I got the gold (almost single handedly), felt no exhaustion and my pace didnt dwindle at all :O

Also, answering Rishav’s question on what I intend to do after I graduate :
I dont really know man, I mean, I would want to go to grad school, probably for a LLM or a Masters in Econ. Then either step into politics or start my own hedge fund. Pretty ambitious I know, but well if you cant dream it, you cant do it :wink:
Does D have double majors?

Im getting pretty excited haha

P.S. Indeed this sounds like an alcoholic forum so we will stop.

yooooo! :smiley:
Another one from the Caribbean here. Not sure what I want to major in though, guess I’ll know after exploring. And for you guys with the not so great scores I got in with a 2010 and I got an early write from University of Chicago soooo don’t be too bummed about the scores. Good luck guys! It would have killed me if I had to wait until April lol

^ You got in ED?? Yeayy!! That should inspire us(especially the lot with the low scores!!) :p

On the discussion of alcohol & athletics. I think if you drink abit just before an event - then it’s good because you get your adrenaline pumping?? :stuck_out_tongue:
But too much before an event will mean drowsiness and a stomach upset!! Also continuous excessive drinking will get you a beer belly(specially if you drink too much beer–)!! :D

@Keya - Are you writing ISC or CBSE or State board??

@Raith - Nice update by the way!! :D

On other news, I’m currently overjoyed as I arranged myself a UPenn interview at a 7 Star hotel!! A massive upgrade since the initial mail was only for a telephonic one in the evening!! :p

yupz, got in ED. lol was hopin it did :)

nah alcohol isnt a good sports mix man. That will have you slipping up on plays. It does take parties to whole other level tho :smiley: whole night rave! ^.^\ /^.^/ ^.^\ /^.^/ haha

And that’s great! Best of luck with the interview.

@Raith, I guess you’ve found the right “booze buddy” in nocknock!! :p

@nocknock - Well going by evidence, alcohol seems to be good for athletics!! But I know for a fact - it ain’t good for football!! :stuck_out_tongue: :D

Out of interest, how did you guys find about Dartmouth?
I mean, in Thailand and South Korea, if you mention Dartmouth to a person on the street, you are undoubtedly going to get a blank stare…

Did you guys find out about Dartmouth when you guys searched for other Ivy League schools? Totally just out of curiosity. And also, what do you guys think about D’s reputation in your guys’ respective nations? I’m obviously applying to Dartmouth so I value quality of education over global reputation of the school, but still, totally curious.

I found out about Dartmouth before I found out about any other Ivy League school actually (True story haha! Even before HYP!) attributing to a campus visit I had when I was back in elementary school.

@rishav
I am undecided about my major. Therefore, right now, maybe grad school. But maybe I change my mind at college or get an amazing opportunity to work somewhere. I will try as many things as possible in college and then I will take the things as they come :)

Good luck with your interview :slight_smile:

@nocknock
Welcome and congratulations :)

@lboss
I found out about Dartmouth on the tv show Gossip Girl :D
