No major updates this time round. We have shared a few of our EC essays, Keya seems to have come across very well in his writing as well as his photographs!! All of us are eager to receive those letters in April, but are of course so nervous – so share your thoughts on the matter, we look forward to meeting new people are hearing their opinions.

No new sports conversations really or any other major EC.
We try offer advice and knowledge about Dartmouth as well as our perception of admissions processes and small bits and pieces of other universities.

We are always welcoming new internationals - we don’t care about your marks or scores; just bring your personality and have some fun with us!

Just an Update

Say hi and post the following:
Name:
Country:
Hobbies/ECs:
And if you want… intended major:

@Rishav
haha!

Personally I love Dartmouth!! But Princeton is just so… wow! I am truly a Princeton Diehard xP But I have to acknowledge that I am very likely not to be accepted, and therefore… DARTMOUTH!! Especially if Dartmouth comes with most if not all of you guys!

@raith ED here too

Why’s Princeton so great? (I genuinely don’t know because I never researched it, since I was never too interested in Princeton)

@Rishav dude… note the finer details of my post…i quote.-‘and that too the only ivy that I liked…but didn’t apply to’

I applied to Dartmouth right:)
and @Raith…I second kdengg’s question to you :)

Well, you said Pton is the only Ivy that you liked but you did not apply to it. And you applied to Dartmouth.

Now again, that either means you DON’T like Dartmouth but still applied to it… OR you like Dartmouth but forgot that it was an Ivy!! :p

Anyway chill, I was playing with words! What you probably meant to say is that Princeton & Dartmouth are the 2 ivies you like but Pton was the one you couldn’t/didn’t apply to despite having a fondness for it?? :)

@Raith - Dude, Keya’s a girl!! Or at least her username & actual name sound like one!! :p

And there’s someone from Georgia??
Where was I??

But yeah, hopefully most of us, if not all of us, get accepted to Dartmouth!! Then we can all probably meet each other in person finally!! :D

You complicate unnecessarily:P Oh and @Raith…lol:)

I want to go to Dartmouth:)

@Quiver - Part of who I am. I twist stuff - to make it funny!!
Quite renowned for it in my school… :)

I am back. And kind of offended. Considering someone seems to have mistaken me for a guy (applying to Smith -Is that even allowed??) and someone else seems very eager to stalk me -.-

On nicer terms, thank you for liking my bird photographs :)

@Sunny: I don’t find the birds; I like to believe that they find me That one would be a White-throated Kingfisher! I’ve recently been leaving out the species names because I’ve noticed people get bored by them, so…

@Raith: Nothing great, it’s only a 5 MP camera (Kodak Z740)…but I hope to be able to buy myself a DSLR in college. Underwater photography sounds very exciting! You can try bird photography down there too…a couple of my favourites are http://www.hbwcontest.com/thumb.php?dir=photos/original_sent_photo&nome=photo_3473.jpg&new_w=null&new_h=600
and
http://www.hbwcontest.com/thumb.php?dir=photos/original_sent_photo&nome=photo_10778.jpg&new_w=null&new_h=600

@Rishav: Yup, I did send in some portfolios. I was advised not to send in too many If you can get a water-proof lens and get close to the birds, there’s no saying what you can do! I’m not very experienced with water-birds, but I have taken many pictures of birds in waterbodies.
Thanks for pointing out that I’m a girl. O.o
It’s possible that you will get a Skype interview. Princeton apparently ensures that every applicant gets an interview. That’s what my interviewer told me, anyway.

@keya
Incredible that you find these birds (or they find you) in the nature We just have pigeons, crows and some ducks at the lake. Nothing really interesting, I think :D

@Keya - No, what I meant by water birds are those that live around water bodies! You don’t need a waterproof lens for that!!
I’ve done quite a lot of photography of water birds, taking a boat & snapping around - but it is tough, especially as the boat’s rocking and the birds are not too keen to pose!! :p

And those photos are brilliant - especially if you managed it with a 5mp camera!!

The guy who’s supposed to interview me, lives in Bangalore & works in Bangalore (courtesy: - LinkedIn) so I think it’ll be a in-person interview, whenever it is!! And ya Pton interviews 99.9% of applicants!! :D

And well your website URL clearly contains your name, so no marks for guessing you’re a girl but Raith’s probably unaware of Indian names!! :p

@Sunny - A quick Wikipedia search reveals Germany has 514 different species of birds compared to India’s 1301!! :)

Well so, India’s got a diverse wild life & civilized life!! :p

@Keya
Firstly I would like to apologize for thinking that Keya was a guy… sorry, I am fairly familiar with Indian names, but I have found that there seems to be such a HUGE variety of names and spelling that I really am never sure… Sorry
A 5MP camera is still really great, it makes a difference when you print out photos, but on a computer I find that there isn’t a major visual difference unless you zoom in. I myself have a GoPro camera which I believe has about 11MP camera? The photos look about the same quality to me - but it does make an amazing difference when filming!
Sorry again for mistaking you as a guy :S

@KD and @Quiver
I find that Pton has a much better engineering department compared to Dartmouth, they have a mechanical engineering course that can be tied to aersospace as well as a certificate in environmental/sustainable energy. They are currently building a new environmental sciences centre which has some really impressive equipment and specs from what I have read.
I love the campus, small town feel, beautiful grounds and the town of Pton has a lot of awesome restaurants and clubs/stores. It doesn’t have such a predominant focus on Greek Life which I kinda enjoy (as much as I am intrigued to join a frat), but they have their “eating clubs” which make up a huge portion of the social scene as well as offer a street of different club like vibes.
They have an amazing alum network and an amazing reunions week (the oldest alum is like 107 years old and has come back every year since he graduated!!) but they order TONS of beer, distribute it freely…
Having had my sister go there I feel very close and familiar with it, kinda like it is already like home for me. I also find that I get along with many of the alum and students with very little effort and enjoy it a lot. Those are the main reasons really.

@Rishav
The Georgian only posted once… hasn’t said anything since then and also was during a busy part of the thread if you read my last two updates I forgot to include the Georgian and then stumbled upon him :P

@Raith - Which explains why I didn’t notice him/her!! :p

And true, Dartmouth’s engineering is a wee bit weak , but goingtodart says that it actually is much better than what it is usually made to be!! :)

Either way, Pton or Dartmouth - I’d be more than happy to go to both places!! :D

@Rishav
Yea, Dartmouth’s engineering is improving, and is down played quite a bit online.
I really am happy to go to either… for all I know I might even choose Dartmouth over Princeton… doubt it, but they are close enough that I might just change my mind (if I was to be accepted to both)

On the discussion of mega pixels, it matters when you want to increase the size of the picture on the computer too!
So if you have a 5MP camera & take an image of 1500x1200 and then try increasing the size, it gets blurred!!

But it is also true that once past 8 MP, it really doesn’t matter much & other factors such as sensor type, shutter speed range, etc. come into play in deciding a photo’s quality!! :)

And on top of that there’s always Picasa & other such platforms to enhance your photos! :D

@Raith, If I am to be accepted to both… Well lets I’d rather not dream of that now!! :p

But yeah, Dartmouth’s engineering department is growing!! :)

Sounds about right to me I still need to get some good underwater flash lights/strobes for my photos
Do you know how irritating it is taking a picture of a lionfish that has no more red since all the red light has already been absorbed?!

@Rishav
Yea, my sister got accepted to all the Ivy’s except Harvard! She had one of the toughest decisions ever :P

Tried Nokia pureview…I think:)…41MP:0

Oh and Dartmouth is one place I applied not because of engineering;) but cause i thought i’d fit in:)

@Raith…how was your sister like…Stats/EC’s etc…
