My sister was amazing stats wise (even though I do wonder how some of them would transfer at the moment like Matric Vs A Levels?)
[ul]
[]SAT 2200 + 1st sitting
[]Subjects: I think 1 or 2 800s and a mid to high 700
[]Matric results: seven subjects, lowest mark 89% for Add maths, highest 99% for science - but these were effected by curves.
[]Debating captain
[]Choir
[]Top 50 in South African Matric
[]Top 100 or 50 (something) in maths, english and science olympiads
[]International Essay competitions - placed
[]Brilliant teacher Recs
[]Loads of sports in the beginning of high school
[]Placed in backstroke in the Mauritius inter school nationals (unfortunately that is age group and doesn’t include many of the top swimmers - still impressive though as she almost beat one of the top)
[]Top in her class
[]applied for financial aid - denied
[]South african/British applicant applying from Mauritius
[]Notable school
[]Brilliant essays as she has a brilliant writing style

I think I might try EBay for some decent underwater photography accessories…

haha yea, my sister is amazing - I don’t want to knock her, but I am sceptical about her stats appearing as amazing but not actually being as amazing as what they seem… like the swimming and the matric results (for example she knows she left out at least 5% of her science paper which was out of 200 marks… and she still got 99%?? questionable in my opinion… though she still is amazing)

@Quiver
Her uni stats:
Started with science type courses, found them too difficult and changed to pol major and ecos minor.
Graduated with honours and a french certificate.
Social chair at one of the eating clubs “Cap and Gown”
Tigressions singer (one of the acapella groups)
Kappa kappa gamma (some position for the Pton chapter)

Well she has already graduated… now working at a hedge fund in Connecticut and has an apartment in Manhattan… she did well for herself :P

@Rishav
Yea I know I’m extremely proud of her! And happy to admit that we are really close :P

Very different people… but yea, you can see why I feel worried about me getting in my stats really don’t compare (or at least not in my opinion)

Oh yea, she was also a prefect at her school (ie leadership position)
I wish I could tell the admissions office that I gave up being head boy at my school in Mauritius to go to SA, without sounding like an arrogant ■■■■■■■! xP

@Raith, well no two people are the same!! :)

I don’t know your complete stats, but 'm guessing they are somewhere close to your sister’s so even though you might not get into all Ivies, you will get into few!! :D

And well, I was in a similar situation!! I was a prefect in my old school(10th Std.) and had I continued there, I would have surely been one of the office bearers (Head boy, sports captain or something!! But I shifted schools and it took me a year to get noticed by teachers in the new school & leadership positions are determined in 11th!! :(

But I’d still say I made the right choice!! :)

@Rishav
Haha, well I have more sports and cultural prizes but didn’t work as hard do as well academically. We will see if the unis still see some value in me joining them though

Yea, I also feel like I made the right choice! :)

@Raith
Mauritius is gorgeous and the people (at least in the video) seem really friendly and supportive. It looks so small and are there only buildings on the sea? Because it looks like there are only trees in the middle of the island. :)

@Sunny
The people are really friendly and the island is very small… smaller than some cities…

HAHA, no, there are a lot of buildings in the centre of the island… but most developed land is on the coast, the centre is more hilly/mountainous and therefore more difficult to build on.

Port Louis seems like its very similar to my current city, Chiang Mai! A tourist city, similar population, and significant foreign citizenry. I think I might want to visit Mauritus sometime!

@Boss
To my knowledge of Chiang Mai - one of my friends lived in Thailand and I remember her talking about Chiang Mai when I spoke to her about Koh Samui when I visited - it is similar to Port Louis. But just with a very different group of people (expected as we are not considered an Asian country/Oriental… but we do have a lot of Indians and Chinese). Mauritius is a weird place :P

Oh man. Port Louis sounds and looks wonderful. I will have to pay a visit there sometime for sure! I wanted to visit either Seychelles, Madagascar, or Mauritius at some time, but I guess Mauritius wins!

You should definitely visit Chiang Mai sometime! Or Korea! Or both! haha
Take advantage of the D-Plan like a boss!

@Boss
I don’t like Port Louis… I find that there isn’t much to do there but I suppose that may just be my preference…
I prefer either the coasts or the nature reserves :D

I’d love to! And I will definitely take advantage of the D-Plan like a BauS ;)

How about the Maldives and Caribbean too? I want to get in some really good diving during my D-Plan trips if possible All the photographers will enjoy the photo opportunities, those of you wanting to try out kayaking can go ahead and do so and of course (especially with Thailand), if you feel like being stung by a potentially harmful sea creature we can arrange that life experience for you too…

International applicant’s D-Plan Life Experiences ™
“We go further to take you closer to those moments that define your life” xP

Well if I had to choose 2 places in the world which I want to visit, I’d choose Brazil( for the little accessible portion of the Amazon rain forest) and Scandinavia!! :D

Don’t know if D-Plan can cover that!! But someday I’ll visit those places!! :)

I like those, two very different choices, different opportunities… I’d definitely be up for Scandinavia not sure if I could do Brazil - unless the portion of the Amazon that we’d visit had boats with air cons… I absolutely hate the heat as ironic as it is -_-
