Nice fly time! I still have trouble keeping constant and getting down there, but really good! Congrats!
The 1.5 is also really good… though if done in a pool I’d imagine you should be about a minute or two faster? Don’t take me too seriously I’m really good at really really long distances, and really short ones.
I tend to be able to take my 50m freestyle interval time in minutes as my time for 3km open water - when I do intervals I don’t push myself enough… usually average about 35-37 mins at the moment on a 45s interval… but I can keep that pace constant up to about 7 km (well I could 2 years ago… haven’t trained as heavily recently so I suppose that is an empty comment?)

That’s actually pretty sad don’t you think? Why accept people who have worked out how to ace their country’s school system? I think the US has it right… apart from academics, they see if they think you would fit in and make a great fit to their campus life.

Yea, English (primarily) then French… though I have had a lot of exposure to Italian, German, Afrikaans, Mauritian creole (just as useless as afrikaans haha), Spanish and a bit of Russian…German is probably the next easiest language for me, then Italian (cause of french)… but I suck at languages (can barely speak my own ;P)… numbers and symbols ANY DAY!

@Sunny
I thought about it… but I don’t know exactly what I want to do (fairly certain I’ll stay in sciences and or engineering) but not 100% sure.

Well for most of those it really is random vocab words (numbers, colours, food, transport types, etc) not many verbs, no grammar understanding and All of those I can say hi and how are you which helps when working in my mum’s food store (especially since we recently have started getting LOADS of Russians xP

I found it on the Dartmouth Website… you’d be surprised how much information the websites have if you read through every page…
*I wonder how many interviewers realise that? My Stevens interviewer kept asking me questions about myself, textbook questions. And then asked if I had anything I’d like to ask… I just clearly said that every question I have had was answered very well by their website and my sister (my sister since she just graduated and is familiar with the life, etc)

WHO MENTIONED A SWIMMING REQUIREMENT FOR GRADUATINNGGGG!?
Even if I get accepted I dont think ill graduate :p

@MRU93 - Golf is fun? How? I find it real boring. I mean, where’s the thrill and excitement? :/

rishav17 - Yeah thats true. No opportunities here. Do you have a daily fitness regime or something? To stay in shape?

Also, there are never less Indians. Never.

And since we’re discussing the US system, i would also like to add that school and college life in India is highly academic centric. Only grades matter, not what you do.
Thats why I love the US education system. It lets you indulge beyond the classroom without penalizing you for it. :)

Don’t worry about the swimming… it really is a case of getting from one side to the other… no time limit, no stroke… if you can float, just move your arms and make your way across
And yes… golf can be fun, when you sink a really long put or hit a couple of amazing shots… but also when you are with friends you joke about stupid shots, lucky bounces… sometimes alcohol and golf mix quite well! (Note: Not in terms of skill, technique, final score… nothing relevant to the actual game) but with a good group of friends, 9 holes, sometimes 18, can be great… the 19th whole however is always the best for me!

@Sunny
The reason though for the languages is that with Mauritius, I’ve spent years of holidays at the nearby resorts, where they get a lot of germans, italians, french, etc. So to try keep up (and try get girls at the time… still kinda partly a reason) I learnt a few simple things here and there… not enough for conversations, but enough to make it seem like I’ve tried really hard

BEST OF LUCK for the interview… I don’t think they have an alum in my area… so I don’t get an interview (would prefer one though). Princeton interview on the 11th of Feb though so excited!! Still need to prepare though :P

@Sunny
Maybe I should send them an email asking for an interview? haha… or maybe they have already decided to either straight up reject me… or better accept me? Or more likely haven’t gotten to me to realise they might need me to have an interview :|

haha! Belle Mare is my favourite hotel by FAR!! we used to go every weekend (my parents would play golf and I would wake board :D) they are like family Go in winter, and it is still hot… but that side of the island is usually a lot cooler that time of year (winter being June-August for us). If you do you HAVE to send me a message!! or tell me in person if we become Greens :P

Maybe there is no alumni in Mauritius at all.
The alumna who will talk to me lives in Germany but 6 hours away from my town.

You live near belle mare? OMG, I am jealous. Besides of the heat, you have an amazing beach, blue water, palm trees and I have fields with cows around me. :D

@Sunny
Oh, I am 100% certain they have no alumnus in Mauritius… but South Africa maybe (but they obviously don’t know if I will be there and yet Princeton still set one up).

Well I actually live on the other side of the island haha! Black River (between Paradise Hotel and Sugar Beach/Pirogue/Hilton hotels). But we lived in the north and it was a 40 min drive (now its more like 1 hour and 30 mins). But still have blue ocean, palm trees and lovely beach not trying to make you jealous or anything :P

I think cows are quite cute… in their weird sort of way?
In person would be so much more awesome! Show you what the life here is like. Plus, if you are able to pay for the flight etc, my parents are usually happy to have my friends over to stay with us (ie… free lodging ) haha. Either way, if we all here go to Dartmouth, I think we will have an amazing time on and off campus!

@Lemming
haha, come on 45 metres (give or take)… is it really that difficult… just doggy paddle your way across… or ask if you can use pool noodles! :D

@Sunny
I really do hope so… I really don’t think I was able to show much of who I am through my essays ( still tried to though of course). I don’t know if it can make my application, but I don’t think it could hurt if too much…

I love Black River… its the only part of Mauritius that reminds me of South Africa (relatively dry, with dry types of plants - like thorn trees. The dive spots are also amazing this side… I urge you to get facebook I have loads of photos from diving and kite surfing on FB) haha! Luckily I am on holiday till uni… well apart from the work experience that I have set up Going to be a lot of fun though!

Their faces!! SOOO sweet!
Yea, we must all get accepted… unfortunately it isn’t as easy as that sounded! lol

@Sunny
You missed a supplement essay? I suppose then the interview should help quite a bit (hopefully) You do art? The closest I could get would be my guitar… and I am no Carlos Santana or Eric Clapton - though I wish I was… plus I can’t sing along to my guitar for s***

Yea, actually only started in December… but doing my rescue diver course (starting tomorrow) so much fun! Especially in a cheap dive area with great dive spots like imagine going for a dive for about 25 Euros! (I think that would be a correct exchange)
