@Sunny
I can kinda draw (still nothing compared to a lot of what my friends can do). They know I play guitar (to a relatively high level as I have done a couple grades)… But I don’t have any pieces that I consider spectacular in any way; besides I don’t have any decent recording software. I wanted to do something with my guitar but I really don’t think it is seriously worth it… maybe I will later though - in which case I shall thank you for getting me to send it in :P

Yea it is really cheap! Luckily not many dive spots (in Mauritius) have dangerous sharks… you are more in danger of a boat hitting you or a jelly fish sting than a shark. I still haven’t seen a shark on any of my dives :’( been wanting too! (My cousin thinks I have a death wish deeper water, wreck dives, getting closer to dangerous fish to get good photos and of course trying to find some sharks!!) If you do visit… that is one activity I’ll HAVE to get you to do!

@MRU93Raith
By the way, I looked for some engineering majors (taught in English) in Europe. I couldn’t find a general engineering major. Only majors like industrial engineering, energy systems engineering, electronic engineering. Are you looking for a “general” engineering major or something special?
But none of the universities could compare with an Ivy, sorry :D

@Sunny
Yea, they definitely aren’t among the “European Elite”. Well I am not looking for the general… but I also don’t know which I want to do (hence the US)… But probably aerospace/mechanical/environmental areas.

So currently this is the list of internationals posted on this thread

MRU – Mauritius/South Africa/UK
Blue – India
Miller – Kenya/Tanzania
MeIsHM – UK
PO – UK/Oman
Canadian2013 – Canada (surprise? :P)
Keya – India
Iboss – South Korea
Rishav – India
Lemming101 – UK
Sunny – Germany
Quiverfox – India
Lefty - India

I’m still hoping for a lot more (after all there can’t only be 13 of us who come onto CC?) Loads of Indians - as expected. Not as many Chinese/Koreans as expected though. So far wide set of interests from photography, to riding, to swimming, to football, to PS3/gaming… Nice variety guys! And also in the majors - though I have the feeling we have a lot of pol/ecos/bus majors here :P

Lets try get more Dartmouth applicants getting hyped about this dark stage of the application where we are all sitting in the dark trying to do what we do.

** Just a fun summary update **

–> For any late comers who couldn’t be bothered to read through 80+ posts!

@Po
Well that is the idea right? not just discuss stats, but what we enjoy and try coax these late comers and shy ones (or maybe just not frequent CC users) to have fun and speak up about what they enjoy :D

To sum up a boat could propably hit you, a jelly fish could sting, you want to see a shark, dangerous fish, you applied to MIT which has, as you said a suicide Monday. I think your cousin is right!

I kite surf (ie jump a good 4 metres in the air for fun)… went sky diving (and wanting to go again!). Not only trying to find sharks, but some a god couple hundred metres in shark infested water (and unfortunately didn’t see any :’( ) I don’t quite have a death wish… more like a potentially short life style? ;)

Try me! Once you see the photos, the ocean, and how safe it is… you’ll absolutely love it!

I did work experience at a dive company in Oman. My first day was 13 hours long - I built a book shelf. Haha, potentially the most boring day of my life. But yeah, diving is great, particularly in the Gulf of Oman, you can get EVERYTHING (except narwhals - which is a damn shame, possibly the coolest living thing ever).

@PO
Never been to Oman, but if there is good diving it is now definitely on my list of spots to visit yea… we definitely don’t get Narwhals… being tropical and all but loads of lion fish, eels, parrot fish, trigger fish. Some dolphins, tuna and barracuda too which are amazing to dive with.
That sounds lame as a first day… is the book shelf still standing? kidding yea, haven’t done any work at the dive centres, but probably will if I go for my dive master certification.

Do you dive too? Or did you just help out? :)

Wooo! Haha, please come and contribute to our floundering economy Haha, I dunno, might shoot them an email and ask if it’s still there. It better be. I put 20 minutes of blood, sweat and tears into assembling that bookcase. Nah, I don’t dive but I thought that it would be a better work experience than sitting about in an office all day (which I in fact ended up doing anyway). We get like whale sharks here and I was speaking to one of the instructors and he said ‘if there had been any customers with us we would have told them to stay back, but there weren’t, so we just hopped on its back and rode it like horse’ ahaha.

@PO
I’d love to contribute if it means having some fun too!
I’d imagine it would have been better than an office job (or at least for me) - at least you can meet loads of new people.
Well whale sharks are extremely docile! I don’t think I have ever heard of an attack… ever! haha. Must have been fun though :)

Ohh I have missed a lot!! And all this talk about swimming and diving is making me nauseous!!
Even Columbia has a swimming requirement to graduate. However Engineering majors don’t need to complete it !! The story goes something like this – Someone proposed that in case of a natural catastrophe - the students must be able to swim and hence there is a requirement for it! But then the engineering students petitioned that they would be able to build a raft or boat of some sort - so they wouldn’t have to swim!! :p

Haha!! I can swim - but nowhere close to those times(almost double!)!!

@guyinblue – Nope, no particular fitness regime!! But I guess basketball coaching on wednesdays, thursdays and fridays and after school football with friends keeps me in some sort of shape!! And no matter how MUCH i eat - I don’t grow fat - so yeah!!

I mostly trek when my family goes off on holidays though!! :)

@sunny - Dartmouth had a supplemental essay?
I guess you are talking about the optional essay that you can send in – and I didn’t write that either, so I too sent in an Arts Supplement(to D & Pton only) for photography!! :)

It would actually be pretty interesting(funny?) if we all get accepted and then go about calling people by their “usernames” at Dartmouth!! :p

@Rishav
Sorry for all the fish talk at worst a few of us would be able to help you out (obviously this goes out to all the other non swimming people here)
Columbia as well? Wow, and yet I wouldn’t have to do the swimming requirement I’ll still be in that pool everyday if I have the time

I think they had an essay… and yet I just realised I didn’t write one… hmmm - I think I’ll take the interview too please :P

I doubt we would call each other by our usernames… after all imagine mine "Hey MRU93Raith! How have you been? "

For future reference guys (cause I’ve realised my username is pain to type)… Either call me Rich or Raith… has to be quicker right? (the MRU stands for Mauritius fyi )

Just had my Dartmouth interview, it was shamazing (yes I did just make that up). We ended up talking about the Brown Recluse Spider, by which I have been bitten. So much better than my Brown interview.
