woah this thread grows quickly.
like 3 pages in one day. @MRU93Raith,haha thanks.your own times are pretty awesome.
I recently discovered that I dont burn out during long distance events.I took a chance this summer at State and wound up with a silver and voila,I now train long distance too.

So many Indians,gah. @Rishav,@Keya-where in India are you guys from?
Bangalorean here.

@PO
Awesome! I hope the interviewer gives you a stellar review to the admissions office What happened during you Brown interview?

@Lefty
We have been ātryingā (well hasnāt been that hard ) to keep life in this thread so far so good right?
Thanks Iāve just started doing training again (unfortunately will only be for 2 weeks, and then hopefully I can find a coach when I go back to South Africa for my work experienceā¦ I love the really long distance events (1.5km or moreā¦ my club and I did a 7+ km swim just for the fun of it :D)

MRU93Raith-I just stopped training.
For one month,im in exam mode.THE biggest Indian exam at the end of this month,the all great board exam.
POmani-best of luck.
havent got an interview call yet from Dartmouth. :(

For me, I had the Mauritian 2010 Nationals the same day I finished my IGCSE exams!! Literally, I finished my IT exam early (well everyone did actuallyā¦ by more than an hour!) and they didnāt let us leaveā¦ I was sitting there watching my watch thinking āwill I even make it to my race?ā haha! luckily I did. But obviously I still went through training during those exams.
My A Levels now - my school didnāt have much swimming training (mostly water poloā¦ but reasonable since we have been the top in SA for the past 7 years Much pride for my school hey ). So I didnāt get much of a chance to train often and take part in competitions and as a boarder I couldnāt even get to a club unless I paid LOADS for transport.

MRU93Raith-lol the swimming scene is so different here!the schools hardly ever have good swimming schools,its the club youāre in that literally decides your place in the swimming world.And it looks like all us swimmers live harried lives.After my first Nationals,I literally had to board a flight in a bathrobe because I had an exam to write.
Thanks on the exams. :D

@Lefty
Wow, that is really different (luckily we are a reallyā¦ really! small country haha!.. think an hour from one side to the other )
In Mauritius the schools have terrible swimming, it is also the clubs that pretty much place you. My club only submitted two swimmers in 2010 me, and this one girl who preferred the longer distances (400, 800, 1200).
South Africa is slightly different though - the schools generally have top swimmers and have their own competitions (where the 1st team swimmers generally do our times as an average). The SA clubs are obviously far better, but the schools generally offer the same sort of standard of training, just not as specialised or focused on the good swimmers :/

** So what about Dartmouth in particular really excites you?! What puts Dartmouth up there for everyone here? **

Iāll answer my own question first :P

The small student body. The beautiful area. The family type environment. The engineering, science and maths departments. The āgreenā perspective - as I plan to take a sustainable approach to my engineering. The ability and norm to socialise with the professors. The winter carnivalās āPolar Bear Swim!ā (they better have a first aid tent or the med students on hand for thatā¦ hyperthermia cannot be such a fun thing to deal with haha!). The swimming. The long list of traditions - all of which I plan to take part in at least once provided acceptance and my admittance. The proximity to ski slopes (gotta try snowboarding!!). The cold.
----> And now with this great group of people here, the fellow students I may spend those next four years with (and maybe longer) :D

I read about the polar bear swim either. That sounds really funny

the beautiful area and green perspective, too. But also the range of outdoor activities, the DOC first-year trips, equestrian is a varsity team, the amazing traditions, school spirit, close community (students, faculty), the D-plan (amazing opportunity for internships), diversity on campus and neuroscience is offered as a major :)

@Leftycusp - Haha!! Iām from Bangalore too!! Which school are you from?

This thread is probably the most active on any of the Ivy forums!! Yeayy!! Cheers to Raith for starting this!! :)

Dartmouthās biggest attraction(other than its Ivy statusā¦) is obviously its small size and closely knit community!! I also found the 5yr BE thing pretty interesting!! Apart from that ā Dartmouthās a beautiful place( so says my Dad ā never been there) and its Soccer team is one of the best(atleast they claim it to be)!! :D

@Sunny
I canāt believe I didnāt read about the equestrianism! If they donāt have polo crosseā¦ I want to start it so much fun!!

Would you want to maybe do neuroscience instead of psychology? Or do you think it is cool that they offer that sort of major at such a low level in further education?

@Rishav
Thanks mate! Turning out to be a pretty good āsocialā life considering almost every single one of my friends are either at school or over seas working/uni (kinda sad though haha - not quite forever aloneā¦ )

When you say 5 yr BE - thatās masters included? (Iām really going to try use all my A Level results to get credit for the low level courses if the 5 yr is actually cause the work load is that heavy :S). At least all you football players (soccerā¦ whatever you call it) will have a great time.

Seems like for a few of us Dartmouth provides a good selection of the sports we enjoy and are good at them too :P

If I get in, Big Greenās taking the Soccer title for sure Dayum cant wait to play
I think the level of skill isnt as high as I though it to be. I thought theyd be club level players :P

Also, yes this is the most lively post ever ! I mean the enthusiasm doesnt die down so easy here
Kudos to Raith for coming up with this!

Also, do you guys think its too late to try getting recruited?
I think I could get recruited by a coach perhaps. Too bad never thought about it :(

@Blue
Thanks guys - though to be 100% honest, got the idea for the thread from one in the MIT forumā¦ I just brought it here and tried to give it my own sort of twist

@Blue
Shame man, why did your principal have a say over where you applied? On the bright side (as much as I do kinda love some of what happens at MIT), right now Dartmouth seems to be very appealing donāt you agree? ;)

Pleasure good luck and hope it works out hey (Iāve already sent my swimming one through- only got an automated reply back for the momentā¦ hoping for one of the coaches to actually let me know by how much I might need to improve etc)

@Sunny
Nice! Very interesting topics I think (though I still prefer sticking with my maths and physics for engineering ) Iād say go neuroscience ;)

@French
Welcome Which major are you looking at doing? And what are your main hobbies that you hope to continue while at university?
