hey there! i've been considering both dartmouth and princeton, and i'm also looking into engineering (though i'm not completely set on that). i know that princeton has a stronger program in general, but i feel like dartmouth might be a better fit for me (i'll be visiting soon to confirm this). are the academics, research, and quality of teaching so good at the engineering departments of both universities that the difference in academics doesn't matter as much (and fitting in the school would be more important)? or is there a significant difference between the school's engineering programs? thanks!

Neither of those schools are really known for their engineering departments. Why not consider MIT, UC Berkeley, UIUC or UM Ann Arbor?

Is there a reason you’re dead set on these two schools?

Don’t look at the nitty gritty of the academics. You got into 2 astounding schools. Go to both and get a feel for the campus and the life. Which ever one you feel you fit in, go there. I picked Penn over Dartmouth and Brown and Berkeley just because they have great pre-med and I love the city campus

Did he get into them or is he just considering them?

TheGoodDoc: At my school, all the top prospective engineers applied to the schools you mentioned, and Princeton and Dartmouth.
The best engineering schools are mentioned by TheGoodDoc. Still, Princeton and Dartmouth don’t lack.

thanks for the help guys! yeah i got into both of these schools and they’re probably my top picks. any more info would be helpful!

Oh, well in that case, congrats on getting in!

Thegooddoc doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Princeton has a top ranked Engineering program.

It’s a no brainer.

^But I do agree that overall fit is important too. Go to Dartmouth if you like it better.

Princeton’s overall reputation is incomparable to that of Dartmouth (especially internationally) but I am not sure about engineering in specific. I think you’ll have to decide once you visited but you’ll for sure realize how extremely beautiful Princeton is. But maybe Dartmouth has a similarly nice campus, I have not been there. If you feel Dartmouth is a better match, go for it since it’s a good school. but still, turning down princeton…

Princeton for engineering.
