Dartmouth vs UfMich Annarbor vs Wayne State

Hello All, I got accepted for all 3. Now please help to decide which one I should take for my premed undergrad.
The reason to have Wayne in my list is full 4 yrs scholarship offer from Wayne premed honors college with funding one time to study abroad. But, not sure if joining Wayne will reduce my chances to get accepted in a good Med school later.

Dartmouth is Ivy league school but expensive (Got scholorship, but, still need to pay around $30k for 2016-17), I would go there if get high recommendation for this. UfMich Ann arbor seams reasonable for tuition fee, but, so many students and not sure about their research opportunities as compare to Dart.

Please help me to decide with your valuable input. Will appreciate it.

I would avoid Wayne state simply because the student body is nowhere near as accomplished as Umich or Dartmouth. Plus you are in downtown Detroit, a mixed bag. Umich has far more research through the UROP program , equivalently talented student body to Dartmouth, and a nicer town and campus. I’d choose between those two - go visit and see which is a better fit for you. At Umich you will need to do more work to find what you want but it is there.

The obvious choices are the other two–for people who aren’t actually paying for it… Free is tough to beat, and despite its location and horrendous graduation rate, Wayne State is not a joke. It cranks out a lot of future doctors and academics, and it has a huge and reputable med school.

Just be aware that Wayne State has a 10% 4 year grad rate, and 23% and 34% for 5 and 6 years.

I am part of the Class of 2020 and I chose Wayne State over Northwestern, Vassar, Brandeis, George Washington, and Kalamazoo. I also go the Presidential Scholarship plus a Scholars Day award that added up to $48,000.

Wayne State used to just be a medical school, so it’s really good for that field. I’m going into political science, another strong department for Wayne.

Just a heads up, very few people outside of Michigan know Wayne State, so people on CC likely aren’t that knowledgeable about it. Wayne is actually in Midtown, not downtown. Honestly, location is probably something that Wayne beats out U of M and Dartmouth in. First off, Dartmouth is in the middle of nowhere New Hampshire. Ann Arbor is kind of a hit-or-miss for kids. It’s a college town. Detroit is an entire city, and a city yields lots of opportunity. Plus Wayne State has the safest campus in Michigan. WSU police responds like 30x faster the Detroit police.

A thing about Wayne is that yes, many students are not as academically inclined, but you have the opportunities if you want them. There’s an outlet for every passion there. You’ll be at the top of the food chain at one of Michigan’s 3 premier research universities. That’s not to mention that Wayne State is a powerhouse for med school. If you want to go to a different school for graduate school, your degree will be respected. Also, I think that as an Honors college student, you could also look into the 7-year program they have running.

Also, the money factor. Getting an undergrad degree debt-free will sure be nice when you have to pay for med school.
