Hey guys. Somehow I got into UPenn and Dartmouth. I am interested in doing chemical engineering. Dartmouth is beautiful but I'm a bit concerned about its isolated position. To me, it would be easier to get internships and job opportunities in Philadelphia, a huge city.
What other factors should I consider when making my decision?
I would really appreciate your input
Thanks a lot

IMO, the main benefit of Penn is Wharton. I didn't look into engineering programs myself, but in general what I've heard has been that Penn is only better than Dartmouth if you're in Wharton.

My interviewer told me that the chemistry department at Dartmouth is very strong (though not a lot of people know about it).

Dartmouth's location in Hanover, NH does mean you won't be able to intern while at school.

But your most important internship will probably happen at the end of junior year, and you'll be working full time.

Dartmouth does have the D-Plan which lets you score internships in the fall/winter/spring when everyone else is still in school.

Dartmouth's engineering is very different from UPenn's . Thayer school is big on interdisciplinary learning and offers more flexibility. Although you might have to spend a couple of extra terms to get a B.E.

Thanks for responding. When you say flexibility, what do you mean?

I saw your thread on the Penn board , I think a person(cibir ?? ) has written a very good reply... I am going to be a freshman this fall myself , so I am no expert.
Also , you said on the Penn board "I don't think I want to be an engineer" ...
Dartmouth offers more flexibility in that sense because you can always do an A.B. degree . Plus , a lot of non-engineering companies recruit there

I got into Dartmouth and Penn as well but I'm interested in pre-med/economics (I want an MD/MBA). Which school is the better choice? I'm from San Francisco and have never lived in a rural environment before (or snow) but I've heard that Dartmouth is more prestigious than Penn...is going there actually worth it?
