when do you take the gmat- after you graduate from college or after you have work experience? could you get a job offer in senior year of college, take gmat, apply for business school, ask them to wait until you work, and then go?

GMAT results are good for five years, so keep that in mind before you schedule a date. If you want to take a test while you're still used to it, then it might be smart to take it immediately after graduation as long as you know that you'll be applying within the next five years. Personally, I wouldn't take it until about a year before you plan to apply. The reason I say that is that a lot of schools will start offering you scholarships if you get a high score (over 700). If you take the GMAT and do really well but don't intend to apply to b-school for a few more years, those scholarship possibilities might not be there when it's actually time to go back to school.

Most b-schools will not defer admission. Apply when you're ready to go.
