Dealbreakers:
-Smokes (cigarettes and/or pot)
-Really bad teeth
-Poor hygeine
-Crossdressing
-No sense of humor
-Arrogance
-Overly critical

skanks

drugs (outside of bud) /regular heavy drinking

certain level of intelligence must be met

doesn't respect my religious beliefs

has no career aspirations

has a child

is overrun by emotional insecurity

doesn't drink

doesn't read books

not intellectually curious

bad teeth (don't have to be perfect, but nothing that would distract me)

Unrealistically romantic

Not romantic at all

I could go on...

I would get upset if he asked me to take down my poster of a nearly naked chace crawford off my wall :)
Really?! You have a poster like that? ;) He is sooo hot!

-Another deal breaker to me is not reading. It doesn't have to be classic literature, but at least read something of substance.Trashy books don't count.
-Being a snob about anything at all.
-Believes in fairy tale love.
-Taking something that is meant for entertainment way too seriously. i.e. Star Wars It's okay to like that kind of stuff, just don't be stupid or annoying about it.

my main turnoffs are:

-feminine or overly-sensitive
-smells bad: this one is really important, a nice (clean) smell is a major turn on, and smelling bad is a major turn off
-likes rap and/or dresses like he likes rap
-cheats
-overweight, ugly or doesn’t take care of himself
-religious
-boring or unfunny

porn wouldn’t really bother me as long as it isn’t an obsession or of any illegal/immoral acts…

I don't get what people mean when they said religious. With most religion nowadays people just go to church, say a prayer now and then, and read the Bible. How's that bad? I consider it's fine as long as they don't try to impose their religion on me.

^ Lol, you must have never lived with or near true-blue conservatives.

Well, I'm not sure if you've read my other posts, but I'm a guy.
...so? :p

Anyways, I guess I'd also have to disqualify anyone who's read Twilight, let alone liked it. Moreover, anyone who claims Harry Potter to be her favorite series. -_-

If I want to be *really picky, anyone who can't name at least 75 countries, as well as their general locations (and preferably their capitals and de facto official languages).

Yeah. I don't know how I could have a literary conversation with anyone who seriously thinks this way without looking like a snob. I'd understand if they've read Twilight only to see what the hype was about, but that's as far as it goes.

what are you talking about?

the twilight series is a literary triumph. TRIUMPH.

People often like to date others with similar religious beliefs, or lack thereof. And if someone regularly goes to church, reads the bible, and prays to jesus, chances are their religion has a big influence on them, and the way they behave around others...often (not always) those people are pretty conservative in every aspect of their lives. it's not just christians - I'm muslim and i've met so many muslim guys who are total dicks in what they think about women and like to impose their personal beliefs on everyone.

I've read a lot of masterpieces of western literature - the ancient greek and roman philosphers, works from the middle ages, the renassiance, the englightenment/classical age, the romantic period, the victorian period, modern and post-modern age - I enjoy reading and am not ignorant, have read stuff from different ages and genres.

The Harry Potter series is flipping awesome. I grew up with the books, read each one as it came out, the first when I was like 9 and the last when I was 16...they are so good! :) and I don't care if my friends/boyfriend read it or not, but anyone who is snooty about an amazing book series comes off as a snob in my book.

I grew up on Animorphs. That doesn't make it acceptable for me to wear either wizard or furry costumes when I'm 20.

I'm grossed out by guys who:

-- end their sentences in prepositions
-- split infinitives
-- accidentally derive to find the area under a curve
-- say 'lay' when they mean 'lie'
-- have comma splices in their writing
-- USE THE IMPROPER SUBJUNCTIVE!! e.g., "I wish I was..." or "If it was..."
-- forget to use L'H

^ You must be grossed out 99% of the time....it's like OCD with grammar :D
chuy - lol there's a difference between enjoying a good book and dressing up as the characters! :)

-Calls me fat or ugly. Period. I don't care if he's joking.
-Tells me his ex is more attractive than me.
-Doesn't listen
-Isn't funny
-Won't watch my favorite television shows with me xD
-Doesn't respect my religion
-Abusive
-Racist
-Alcoholic
-Gross
-Can't get past my "fashionista" exterior
-Won't discuss politics with me
-Too jealous. If he gets mad because another guy asks me to dance, then we've got a problem.
-Anybody that likes Twilight. PERIOD.

lol I love the Twilight hate in this thread. FINALLY some people with sense!! srsly, I love rpattz as much as the next girl, (and dammit I knew about him because of the 4th Harry potter movie long before the screaming twatlight fangirls!) but OMG that movie looks hilariously bad and the book is even worse.

I like harry potter, and have a very fond affinity for it since I grew up reading it (so yes you will get b-tched at if you diss it and have never read it), but I'm not super into it anymore because I'm, you know, an adult now. I used to read fanfiction and things like that for it when I was a teenager and even then I thought it was kinda weird when there were adult women in their 20s/30s writing this stuff and posting on the message boards... that's just strange.

and yawn, i'll have you know that because of your post, I just tried to think of 75 countries and as many of their capitals as I could lol. (I made it to 36 and got bored lol)

If you make a list you're very shallow also:

"1) If a guy is too sensitive and cries"

Congratulations on contributing to the patriarchy and your continued oppression.

Oh crap now my list consists of people who make lists.

Show me a guy who claims to never cry and I'll kick him in the nuts hard enough to prove otherwise. Then I say shoot him in the head for being a lying, strutting, posturing alpha-male-wannabe d-bag that this world would be better without. But hey, if that's what gets you going, go ahead and date him.

it's one thing to cry sometimes, under reasonable circumstances--i'm a firm believer in a good cry (no matter your gender). but crying TOO much is a deal breaker.

that goes for both genders. 'big girls don't cry'

I'm pretty sure guys who say that are referring to "emotional cries", not tears due to physical pain. I, for one, do not cry.

^lol,
Its true though, they do mean not crying over emotional issues. And I also agree that a girl cannot cry too much. It gets annoying, and is tiring.
