My D is fast losing patience with Tulane! She applied late Aug/early Sept. but her application status never went to "complete". After sending certain parts of her app. multiple times her status remained "incomplete". Phone calls down to addmissions were frustrating to her because either she got a voice mail or the person answering phone said to give it more time. Finally after many weeks she got ahold of someone in admissions who said that they accidentally had 2 files on her with parts of her application in each. After merging, her status went to "Complete". Yay! Then we began the wait. Some weeks pass and we are now into November. She checks status and it says "Accepted" Yay again. A friends DD who applied much later got her Acceptance in the mail with her Merit offer a long bit ago. My D began the wait for the letter. She called down 3 weeks ago and man told her wait another week. I finally got on the phone and talked to admissions. Seems she was accepted on 11/11. Intern said letter should have arrived by now. She said she would go straight to the mail room and have them resend it. She did patch me through to my DD's counselor who said "Congratulations, she got a Merit award but I cant tell you how much"? We have to wait on the hard copy offer. That was a week ago and DD is so frustrated!! She is wondering if all things get handled like this in administration? Trying to keep her spirits up. She is thankful we sent DHS project with signature requirement so she knows that it arrived but she is being paranoid it will get screwed up somehow!

Hi Spring - your frustration, and your D’s, is completely understandable. There really is no excuse for it, and you are not the first person I have encountered that ran into the “2 files created” problem. I cannot understand how that happens since you would think it would be based on something unique like SSN. Maybe they don’t do that anymore for fear of identity theft. Anyway, definitely no good reason for it.

I would say that this year is definitely worse than previous year or two, and I guess it is because they have far more applicants than ever. At some point it just ovewhelms the personnel available, and since they didn’t know it would happen they couldn’t staff up ahead of time. I can only tell you that we did not have these problems last year with Tulane, and my D has gotten very prompt and courteous attention to all inquiries she has made in her first semester there.

The DHS is handled completely separately by a different committee, so I am sure that is OK. I wish her the best of luck on both that and her initial merit award. Based on her stats I would be shocked if she doesn’t get Presidents @ $25,000.

I know how you feel! Tulane said they sent the official acceptances to both me and my sister on the same day (11/24). She got hers a week or so later, but I’m still waiting! I called them and they said that they would send it again, but they couldn’t tell me the amount of merit aid either. Super frustrating, especially because whether I apply for DHS hinges on whether I receive the highest award (and my sister’s not applying for that so it didn’t even matter). I was frantically looking through the mail for upwards of three weeks, and nothing came. Hopefully it’ll get here soon, though!

I was about to post in this thread and say I was getting impatient, but then I checked Gibson and found out I was accepted! Now the wait for the official letter, hopefully not too long.

cottoncandy - I hope you are not waiting on the letter to decide about applying for the DHS. Everything for the DHS has to be postmarked by Tuesday!

The teacher recommendation form has already been sent, and I have a project (writing sample) that I’ll send on Monday-- I’m certainly not waiting now, since I know it won’t get here before the deadline! I’m just going to send it and hope for the best. I’m applying for the CS merit scholarship also, though.

I would definitely encourage that DHS application. While $25K/yr is nice, the full tuition is nicer, and goes up each year with any tuition increase.

I agree with fallenchemist (no surprise there!). The school continues to be deluged with applications. Yes it is frustrating, but hang in there. I thought I saw elsewhere that someone posted there’d been a problem with the mailing of some of the letters, and that they would be resending a bunch of them.

My s also had the “double file” problem, and it took several calls for them to manually identify the problem and merge the two files. But all worked out very well in the end.
Please remember that getting a response in 3 months is still a good thing! My other suggestion-- remember that some of the Tulane adcomms read cc!! Best to be positive!

Thanks jym.We are trying to be hopeful every day when we check the mail. It is just frustrating for her which I understand. Tulane is a top choice for her so if she gets a nice Merit award she can tell some financial safties that she is no longer interested.
I didnt think my post was that “Debbie Downer” but I think your advice is good about being careful what you say.

I had basically the same problem as you-- and although they resent my letter last week, it turned out that they just sent my sister a copy of the one she’d already received. Got it in the mail today. They’re swamped with applications right now, but I’d call your counselor again and explain the situation- given your circumstances, they may diverge from the protocol and tell you your merit award (as they did for me). Good luck, though!

So the acceptance letter finally showed up today. My DD was awarded the 25K and Honors. We are all thrilled. Now crossing all fingers and toes for the DHS.

See!!??! Aren’t you feeling better now?? Congrats!

Spring - I answered your other post first but I’ll say it again: CONGRATS TO YOUR D (and you of course!)!!

Good things come to those who wait. Congratulations!
