Hmmm...it seems like Georgetown would be a nice choice for him. I mean, it has some stuff that he is really looking for (specialized major, location), but that doesn't necessarily mean it is a fit for him. I mean, we really can't decide that for him...all I can say is that it is a good school that has what he is looking for academically and is better known (although probably not better) than Davidson, if that matters to him (which it may not, since all the schools he got into are pretty well-known, although not quite as prestigious as Georgetown).

For some people--like myself--location and aesthetics are a big deal and a serious consideration. If the location is that much more preferrable, than that may be as good a reason as any to go to Georgetown. If that is more of a minor, throw-away preference (he can't have been too displeased with Davidson's location or he wouldn't have sent his deposit there), than what about the major? SFS is a pretty big deal, as I understand it, so if the school is otherwise a good fit, plus that added perk, I would lean very heavily towards Georgetown.

I feel like I rambled a bit, but really...it's up to your friend to pick the better fit.

I love Davidson. I've tried to get my kids to consider it, and if I were a teenager again, I'd probably try to go there. I like the intimacy and the close contact with the local community. And its international programs for a LAC are outstanding. But on the other hand:
- Georgetown's name is much better known
- The urban location has a lot of appeal to many students
- The proximity to D.C. for students wanting political or international internships is hard to beat.
If it were me, I'd pick Davidson. If it were my daughter, she's picking Georgetown. How you feel about the name recognition and physical setting issues might be the key to your decision.

i chose georgetown sfs over davidson (with a scholarship). a lot of it was location (i'm not so big on the south) and what i saw as homogeneity (especially with regards to religion). the sfs program is amazing and georgetown's connections are unbelievable.
