Hi everyone!! I was on the wait list at Middlebury and Davidson. I got into Middlebury yesterday and was so excited that I accepted their offer. I emailed Davidson today to let them know, and they immediately called me and said they are offering me a spot too!! I'm more interested in the sciences, play the French horn, and love the outdoors. I have to decide by tomorrow, so any help you can give me would be great!

Easy one - Middlebury.

Middlebury, unless Davidson offered you money.

Easy one - Davidson!

This is a coin flip, and I like both these schools about equal - but I’d probably go Davidson.

In terms of prestige, Middlebury. In terms of climate, Davidson. Middlebury is definitely for outdoorsy types, but it’s very cold most of the year–my daughter was chilly up there at Breadloaf in May–so unless your outdoor activities include skiing (they have their own ski area), you might prefer Davidson.

Davidson has skiing too – on water at its lake campus. For the other kind of skiing, NC has decent ski slopes about 1.5-2 hours from Davidson, easily doable as a weekend trip. Admittedly, it’s not as good as anything in Vermont.

A few things to consider…

Sports: Davidson is D1; Midd is D3.

Size: Midd (~2500 students) is larger than Davidson (~1750).

Location: Midd is closer to nature; Davidson is closer to a large city.

Weather: Obviously.

I personally like Davidson better than all except two or three northeastern LACs, and Midd is not one of them. YMMV.

Davidson - It has more prestige where I’m from (WA) and is seen as a more serious school out here. Great FA, too.

They’re about equally prestigious as far as LACs go-a step below AWSP. Skiing and Investment Banking Placement favor Middlebury while Warm Weather and Premedical Preparation favor Davidson.

Just to be clear: you’re saying a school with some 2000 kids in North Carolina has more prestige in Washington than a school in Vermont with some 2000 kids? Right. Sounds like pretty definitive stuff. Go to Davidson, obviously.

Thanks! I needed a laugh today.

haha thanks everyone!! I just called to let Davidson know that, unfortunately, I will not be attending. So I’m going to Middlebury!

Good for you! Where I’m from (WA), Middlebury is seen as a better choice for a good student.

As for the skiing, anything south of NY is pretty lame. I met a young couple from Midd skiing at Snowbird during their spring break, and they were passable by UT standards.
