Middlebury vs. Davidson?

I'm still deciding last minute I would really appreciate ANY input. Things I'm interested in include club swimming, outdoors clubs, sociology, English, and Spanish. I'm from upstate New York so distance and weather are definitely factors... Thanks for any help anyone might be able to give!

Can’t beat Midd for Spanish and English, and it’s an outdoor lovers’ paradise. I visited Davidson once–very nice school, but a little too Southern for me. The huge Greek scene was a big turn-off.

At Midd, you can play water polo! And the pool is the BEST. Midd has its own ski hill, and you must be used to winter.
The caliber of language instruction and the rigor of the academic program will be higher at Midd.

I’m biased–I go to Davidson–but I’d strongly disagree with the assertion that the rigor of the academic program will be higher at Middlebury. Davidson has a reputation for having one of the toughest and least grade-inflated undergraduate programs in the country. Maybe that’s not a positive for you, but from experience, I’ve found it’s the truth.

Both schools are great…! That’s for sure… But,

 • Middlebury: most beautiful campus, rigorours academics, the best language depart.,
 • Davidson: better climate (if you prefer spring/summer weather), better location (not that isolated)

I was in the same dilemma (midd, davidson, dartmouth) when I had to decide where to apply ED… I chose Midd…

You have to see in which school you’ll fit…

One thing you should consider is where you plan to settle. I know this is difficult to know this early on, but Middlebury is well-known and highly regarded in the Northeast. My fiancee is from the South (and considered attending Davidson). Down there Middlebury is also well-known and highly regarded. Rightly, or wrongly, Davidson, is simply not that well known in the Northeast. While it’s a great school, it’s known more for Stephen Curry than anything else, even in the South. I’m sure it’s a pretty campus and you can certainly get a great education there, but it’s just not that well known. Not that Midd is universally known, but it’s certainly better known than Davidson.

Thanks everyone, I’ve officially decided on Midd! :D

Yaaaay! Congrats!

Welcome to the Class of 2015!!!
