*~Davidson, Pepperdine, Scripps, Colorado College~* suggestions appreciated!

Hi CC! Im currently a junior and am really trying to narrow down my college list. These schools are all pretty high on that list, so do i have a shot at them? Thanks!

Colorado College
Davidson College
Pepperdine
Scripps

GPA: 3.9 W
3.65 UW
Freshman year didn't go so well for me (3.9 1st semester, 3.4 2ed semester) but my grades have risen from there. This past semester I got a 3.75 UW with 3 AP's.

ACT: 30 Composite (first time, i'm retaking it in June to hopefully get a 32+)

SAT I:
Comp: 2000
CR:700
Writing: 650
Math: 650

AP Courses: AP World (3), AP US History, AP English 11, AP Physics B*
*taking these tests in May

Im registered to be taking AP Stats, AP Computer Science, AP European History, AP French, AP Literature, AP Government, and AP Econ next year.

Honors Courses: Honors Algebra 1, Honors Geometry, Honors Algebra II, Honors English 9

EC's:
3 year Varsity Athlete (1st team all-state academics, ranked 7th nationally, State Champions, great chance at captain next year)
3 Years on state ODP (Olympic development program) Travelling team
10+ years athletics outside school (4x state champions)
2 Years Track

3rd year member of Student Senate
Girls State Delegate

Photo in State Art Exhibit

National Honor Society (lettered)
National French Honor Society (maybe co-president next year)

75ish hours of community service

Also, I am working at starting a Mock Trial team at my school next year.

My family circumstances don't qualify me for financial aid, so it'd be nice to know about some chances for that as well.

Finally, if anyone has some suggestions in the small, liberal arts school category, that'd be great! I'm primarily interested in political science, government, business, those sort of disciplines.

Thank You all!

Well the test scores could definitely get up, but the GPA definitely meets the benchmark for those schools. You seem to be quite a talented athlete so maybe you’re getting recruited? If so then your test scores high enough for sure, maybe not for a program like Scripps though.

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1634573-please-chance-me-for-cornell-dartmouth-harvard-why-not-uva-notre-dame-and-some-others.html#latest

I’m not really looking to play college sports though.

Is Scripps significantly harder to get into?

Hmmm… looking back at that I think I screwed up somehow… you are actually right around the middle 50% scores for scripps admits

-bumping for more feedback instead of reposting-

My daughter had slightly higher stats across the board, will graduate HS with an AA in addition to HS diploma, but fewer EC’s and was not accepted at Scripps. We were pretty surprised, as she seemed a good fit there. But, she applied RD, and from what I have heard, applying ED/EA may have made a difference. Many schools this year filled a large portion of their spots via ED/EA, creating an extremely competitive RD pool. So I would suggest doing your best to raise what stats you can, and apply ED. Good luck!

Do EC’s hold a lot of weight at the Claremont Colleges?

I was admitted to scripps, and I’d say that the interview and essay holds a LOT of weight. They made a comment in relation to my essay “I admire your strength and dedication” on my admissions letter. My gpa was on the average for the rejected pool, so I was really surprised. But I saw this chances thing that says that 80% of interviewed people get in, which is a lot. They really truly do a holistic view and they look at how you’d fit. The interviewer will decide whether or not they’ll see you as a scrippsie or not. Good luck - heh, maybe I’ll see you there.

What’s your home state? Geographics can play a role to . Col COllege if you live in COlorado, is a tough go. From Maine, or North Carolina, not so much. Same with a number of the other schools.

I got into Scripps with a slightly higher SAT and a very rigorous course load (IB Diploma). I didn’t have an interview.

On my admissions letter there was a handwritten note about my involvement in my community (lots of founding and leadership positions) so I think ECs are quite important. I think my essays were also good- I love to write and I had an 800 CR score and 760 SAT II Lit, and my common app essay was on women’s status in the global climate, which I have a feeling may have appealed to them. I would say ‘fit’ and consistency within your application - obvious passions and prowess in certain areas- counts for a lot in their admissions.

Also I was rejected by Davidson

Colorado College has the distinctive “block plan” where you take only one course at a time. Either you think this is great, or you do not like it. If you think it is great, then you should apply to Colorado College even if it might be a reach. If you think you would not like it, then don’t bother at all.

Cornell College in Iowa (not the university in New York) has the same kind of “block plan” and is much easier to get into if you really think you would like it.

You do need a “safety school” where you are basically guaranteed admission. None of the schools you have listed would qualify as a safety. I recommend that you add a couple of easier schools, which you know your family can afford, even if you plan to apply to all of the above. Cornell College probably would be a safety for you if you can afford it.

Good Luck!

Thanks for all the feedback!
@NROTCgrad i do have several safeties, but am more concerned with these schools, as they may all be reaches. I love the block plan, but Iowa isn’t exactly my style :)

@enchantingly , do you live somewhere where Scripps visits? they don’t have any events in my state, so can i just request an interviewer to come here, or do i have to do it on campus?

@anxious42015, you can also interview with an alumni interviewer if you live more than a couple hundred miles away; I interviewed on campus because Scripps is about an hour away.
