Essays: I wrote about life guarding for my common app essay. I am proud of it! Why Davidson was okay, not super original. I thought my extracurricular essay was decent. I think my book list was solid! I put my books (35, mostly nonfiction) in order of how much I enjoyed them.
Teacher Recommendation: 2. I think they were pretty good. I’m hoping at least

I visited Davidson in October and fell in love with it. I’m not sure I’ll even be able to afford it though… my dad did the price estimate calculator and we were very disappointed with how little aid we’d get! So I’m crossing my fingers not just for admission but for a generous package too. Good luck to you all! From what I’m seeing on this thread, you all seem very very qualified <3
two and a half more days!!! we can do it!
@annierau I hope you get in (w/ good aid), you sound like a great person. I liked Davidson before visiting but going to Discover Davidson was what sealed the deal for me. I loved the school and the types of students it attracts. Best of luck to everybody! The anticipation is real.
Genuinely curious about people’s book lists. I had around 35 books + periodicals and divided my list into books for 2nd semester Junior year, summer reading for school, semester 1 of senior year, free reading during the school year, free reading during the summer, books related to my supreme court obsession, and periodicals.
While I didn’t indicate my favorites, I’ll share them here for people looking for book recommendations. My top 5 books from the past year were: In My Own Words by Ginsburg, YUGE! 30 years of Doonesbury on Trump by Trudeau, Still Alice by Genova, A Raisin the Sun by Hansberry, and The Boleyn Inheritance by Gregory.
@sunshinemiracle I feel that. I’ve switched over to reading the newspaper and a few blogs during the school week and only reading books over vacations and weekends. I read a ton this past summer while procrastinating college apps
@sunshinemiracle Same. I don’t really read books like I used to because I don’t have as much free time to sit and read anymore. I tend to read more for news or school than entertainment. It’s weird because I lead a reading tutoring program at my old elementary school, so you would think that I was a big bookworm.
Also, @goblue8721 I hope you get in. My fingers are also crossed like crazy because Davidson is the first of my big three decisions that come out either this week or next week
Might as well post my stats now, for anyone in the future, and because I might be too crazy in a few days to write atll this down!

Hoping for the best! I hope I don’t regret not going ED to Davidson. I was deferred from a top choice and then later rejected, otherwise I wold have gone ED II, but that’s life! I know there is a plan for me. Good luck to everyone, you all seem very high-achieving and to be very nice!!
My books were honest in that they were all about politics and history not very well rounded but displayed an interest. Tbh they probably care little about that prompt only the why prompt and such. I personally wrote about the dean rusk center if anyone knows what that is
@jkgreen27 that’s a very cool topic!! I’m very outdoorsy, so i wrote about the lake campus, and also wrote about having the opportunity to meet the davidson music faculty! also wrote about one of the most important things to me was the attention students receive from teachers
@jkgreen27@goblue8721 You both sound like yall had great essays. My essay focused more on how when I visited campus, I could really see myself there and how I would get involved in stuff like the Black Student Coalition, research, and their innovation and entrepreneurship initiative. Also, the passion of the professors, students, and faculty. It was hard to fit everything in that word limit because I had so much to say.
@hbrunner My list was pretty lengthy too (Yay fellow book person ). I divided by genres, though, and just gave each genre a quirky little name. I also stuck only to books-- no periodicals/magazines.
My essay was kinda weird, not the best thing I’ve ever written. I did the “a day in the life” strategy and pointed out especially enjoyable experiences I had during my visit.
