My son is an incoming freshman this fall. I like to plan far ahead and am looking at the Dawg Daze schedule for the weekend before school. It looks like it starts on Thursday Sept 20 through the weekend and beyond.
Does anyone have an idea of when we should arrive and move our son in? Also, there’s a home game against Arizona State Sat Sept 22. Is attendance at the game a part of the welcome week?
Thanks and go Huskies!
As for move in, you will be assigned a time and date for move in later by HFS. It will either be on September 20th or 21st, but the times vary. If that time doesn’t work for you, HFS accepts requests to change your move in time, as long as it’s in one of those two days or after.
The game is not included in dawg daze (as in price). Your son would still need to buy a student ticket/have a dawg pack ticket (season ticket for all fb/mbb games for students). I would encourage he go to the game though with maybe his roommate or some friends, and get a good feel for the school spirit, and I’m sure the dawg daze staff would suggest the same.
Students have to pay for dawg daze? What’s the price? Is there another set of events for parents?
There is a formal parent orientation which we have to sign up for and pay, but no mention of the football game on the schedule. http://fyp.washington.edu/orientation/content-areas/parent-orientation-1/
Found this site that answers most of my questions: http://www.uwdawgdaze.com/?page_id=30
*If you live in the residence halls and are assigned to a Friday, 9/21st move-in, you should not change your move-in date. Thursday/Friday are check-in dates for Dawg Daze.
The majority of Dawg Daze events are free, with a few exceptions (President’s Picnic, Mariners and Sounders).
Can my Parents / Friends / Family come to Dawg Daze?
Yes, no, well maybe! Students are welcome, and encouraged, to bring their parents, family, and friends to certain events at the beginning of Dawg Daze. However, most of the events are geared toward new students. These events are designed to provide new students with opportunities to meet and interact with other incoming students!
Parents and families are welcome to attend Freshmen Convocation and President’s Picnic and can get tickets online.
Is it mandatory that I attend Husky Kick-Off?
All new students are expected to attend Husky Kick-Off. For those of you in a First-year Interest Group (FIG), this will be your chance to meet your FIG leader and the other incoming students in your group for the first time; Husky Kick-off will also count as your first meeting of the quarter. For those of you NOT in a FIG this will be a great opportunity to connect with other students, and it is expected that you also attend.
Looks like there will be two Football games, one on 9/22, another on 9/29, if you stay the whole week. Weather will be perfect for watching all outdoor games (Husky football, Mariners baseball, Sounders soccer, maybe Seahawks too?)
Thanks, @bogeyorpar for the move-in info.
I believe the Husky Kick-off on 9/25 includes the big W photo that the freshman will take on the field - how fun! The 9/22 game is perfect timing since we will be there for the sendoff.
