DC vs NYC College Life

Hi everyone, I’m currently deciding between Fordham and George Washington University and want to compared the environments of each school. Im from the NY area so visit NYC a lot to see shows, visit museums, etc. However, despite the number of times I’ve been to the city, I never seem to run out of fun things to do. I’ve only been to DC a few times, so was wondering if DC is the same way? Is there a new show or attraction I can see every weekend, without just visiting monuments and smithsonian museums for four years? Thanks in advance

I grew up in NYC and went to school in D.C., so I have some perspective.

No place beats NY in terms of plays to see (on and off Broadway), museums to visit, music to hear, etc., etc. That said, I think D.C. is a much more livable city with enough going on without the frenetic pace of NY. (But I left NY for sunny SoCal, so I might not be the most objective person to ask).

When you say Fordham, do you mean the Bronx (Rose Hill) campus and G.W. do you mean Foggy Bottom? Or are you talking about Fordham’s Lincoln Center or GW’s Mount Vernon campuses?

The Bronx Fordham campus will give you more of a campus feel while still being easily accessible from Manhattan. The Lincoln Center campus is, not surprisingly, in the heart of NYC.

Likewise, the Mount Vernon campus of GW approximates a campus more than the Foggy Bottom campus does.

More importantly, how are the respective programs in your major and are there cost differentials to consider?

I would be either at Fordham Rose Hill or GW Foggy Bottom, and plan on being a Biology major on pre-med track. The financial aspect isnt really playing a big role in my decision though, since with the scholarships I got, both schools will be literally the exact same price. I believe GW will give me a better pre-med education and I’ll have access to their hospital for internships hopefully, so I am currently leaning towards GW, but I also want to ensure I will have fun in DC, especially since I would be missing out on living so close to NYC.

I think if you are from the NYC area and are already familiar with it, you should try out a new environment for a few years.
