hey guys,
quick question are we allowed to take MATH 1C and 1D in the same quarter? cus on assist it lists the 1C and 1D together as one category. so...?

No. At Foothill and De Anza they basically brake up multivariable calc into two courses, multivariable differentiation and multivariable integration, so they're listed together for the prerequisite articulation. You can take 1D with 2A or 2B though.

No. Math 1C is the pre-condition of Math 1D. I think the reason Assist lists 1C and 1D together is that you have to take both of them in order to fulfill an equivalent Math course in UC.

Do I need to take Japanese all 1st ,2nd,3rd (namely,Japanese 1,2,3)quarters to satisfy the UC transfer foreign language requirement.???

There is no "UC transfer foreign language requirement". If you are speaking of IGETC you could actually look at the form instead of asking everyone else and see that you must only pass the second class in the sequence.

"..you must pass the second class in the sequence."

i'm not entirely sure about Japanese, but that's not necessarily true for all foreign languages.

according to my limited research, it appears that if you take a latin based language like spanish, italian, french, etc, you're required to pass the second class in the sequence. however, the non-latin based classes that i looked at (hebrew, arabic and sign-language) satisfy the IGETC requirement after only the first course in the sequence. don't ask why... because, i honestly have no idea.

i personally took hebrew 1 at SBCC under the assumption that it satisfied IGETC, and started tripping out after seeing one of the posts on this forum discussing the language requirement. i checked assist, and hebrew 1 shows up on the list, but there are unexplained asterisks next to hebrews 2 and 3. after calling SBCC, i was assured that hebrew 1 does, in fact, work for IGETC.

anyone else have a similar experience with any given language?

gf finished it w/ one semester of spanish. I think it's different if you are on the quarter or semester system.

Reading these posts makes me mildly bitter at USC. I'm having to take 3rd-semester Spanish this Spring. Fooey.

Are Foothill and De Anza’s math serires equivalent?
Can I take Math1A-1C at De Anza and 1D at Foothill?

yeah you can mix and match de anza/ foothill with respect to completing the series. my recommendation is to finish it at one school though so that you won’t have to deal w/ new books / equivalency confusion. (ps: math classes at De Anza are better from what I’ve seen).

Also you could get petition to take both classes in one quarter, but that’d be pretty tough.
