De Anza to UC transfers as Psych Major

I’m a prospective student of De Anza (will be enrolling next semester or so), and I want a basic idea of preparing for UC transfer. I have some questions and am looking for some answers and tips.

I’ve looked at ASSIST.ORG for Pre-req courses and I understand them roughly, but am rather confused with the IGETC for UC’s.

I’m also a bit nervous about choosing the right school for me, as I look into majoring in Psychology - counseling. So, if anybody here knows anything, please tell me which UC is most apt for a BA in Psychology.

Currently, I’m looking at UCB and UCLA and possibly UCSD (I see that De Anza has a TAG with UCSD) as my top targets, but am still a novice when it comes to the actual quality of Psych courses at these or any other UC’s.

Tell me more about IGETC? Is it more important to finish IGETC or the Pre-req’s?

Tell me about UC’s with an excellent Psychology program.

Any other advices from any UC psych majors out there?

Thanks in advance, this is my first post in… three years of peaking, but I love you guys. :>

1.) IGETC is just a general education plan for CC students. Once completed and certified, you'll be done with your lower division general ed. Though its not a requirement, you should complete the IGETC as well your pre-reqs to be competitive. Take a look at <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/390953-uc-transfer-faq.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/390953-uc-transfer-faq.html</a> for more information.

2.) I've heard UCLA's psychology program is one of the best

Thanks, that clears up a lot of things :>
And UCLA wow.. I was hoping it'd be, because I've always wanted to go to UCLA.
Thanks SkWz. :P

After today, tomorrow will be the most beautiful day of etix89's life. His breakfast will taste better than any meal you and I have ever had. Godspeed to you my fellow psychology major.

UCB has a great psych program. so great it's impacted in fact.

etix, I was admitted to UCLA as a Psych major from De Anza, so let me know if you have specific questions

Take Shannon Hasset for Psych 1. She's an easy A.

Thank you so much, all of you.
And er.. especially CoffeeBreak for the most wonderful info. :P

remember to focus on your pre-reqs, those are important

If you are considering multiple UC campuses you might take a look at UCTransfer.org - Home . In particular, UC Statewide Transfer Preparation Paths might be very helpful to compare the Psychology programs at the various UC campuses.
