So guys, I'm an Econ/Business Econ/Management Science/Business major. Whatever. I applied to about 10 schools and only about 3 of them require Math1C (the third of the a-d calc series). Anyway, it's really hard to fit it into my schedule, so I was wondering if it's okay to just not take it? Do you think it'll severely affect my chances or anything? For Davis- it's recommended for econ majors, and it's one of my top choices.

3.7 GPA, already accepted into SJSU, UCSD, and UCSC. Waiting on Berkeley (econ), UCLA (biz econ), Davis (econ), Irvine (biz econ).

UCI now requires you to finish 1C for biz econ. Originally I didn’t want to take 1C either but Irvine emailed me saying that it was required. I ended up changing my spring schedule to include it.

Well, it’s listed in the pre-reqs right? But that doesn’t mean we have to finish it?

====Business Economics, B.A.====
Transfer applicants with the highest grades overall who satisfactorily complete
course prerequisites will be given preference for admission. All applicants must
complete one course in microeconomics, one course in macroeconomics, and one
semester or two quarters of approved calculus.

"We have received your University of California Undergraduate Application for Admission and Scholarships. Thank you for your interest in our campus.

We are in the process of reviewing your application. Before we can complete our review and reach an admission decision, we need the following information from you:

Please let us know if you can take Math 1C in the summer? We are only able to consider your admission into the Business Admin major. Business Economics does not allow completion of a required course in the Summer session. A full year of Calculus (3 quarters) is now required for both of these majors.

We must receive this information within five days of this message date, or processing of your application may be delayed or canceled."

I thought they didn’t really care about finishing prereqs either but I guess they do require the completion of at least one year of calculus.

From the UCI Website: “Economics: Transfer applicants with the highest grades overall and who satisfactorily complete course prerequisites will be given preference for admission to the majors in Economics, Business Economics, and Quantitative Economics. All applicants must complete the following required courses: one course in microeconomics, one course in macroeconomics, and one semester or TWO QUARTERS OF APPROVED CALCULUS.”

Doesn’t this mean taking CalcA+B is acceptable?

That’s what i thought as well… I guess it is a recent change. They emailed me in like February. I told them i would add math 1c for the spring which i am currently taking.

I got in early March and I need to get a B or better in 1c as stated in my contract. It makes me mad that UCI just changes their policy without updating their site or assist.

I’m in the Business Economics major here at UCI and all we had to take was Math 2A and 2B (1st and 2nd part of Calc.)…so I’m pretty sure you only need to take 2 parts of calc…I would call admissions tomorrow to be sure.
