Dean J-help, I'm admitted,but not enrolled--

<p>Hi Dean J,
I'm a little bit panicked as I write this.
I sent my enrollment "reply form" and check for $250 in on May 1st. I personally walked it to the post office, handed it to the post master who put the letter with a pile and assured me that it would be post-marked "May 1st". That was Tuesday, and I live about 3.5 hours by car from C'ville.
As of Thursday they hadn't received it.
As of Friday they hadn't received it.
The folks in the office are very nice, but to the point: "you'll have no problem as long as we receive it and it is post-marked May 1st".
OMG, now it is the weekend. That letter should have been there already. What if my letter is on the floor at the post office? What if the post master didn't do as he said and it was post marked on the 2nd?
On May 1st I did e-mail the adms. office telling them that I accepted the offer and that the check is in the mail. I did make copies of the reply form and check.
I am of course, kicking myself for not overnight mailing it. I thought about doing that.
The last person I spoke to said "Don't worry, it will probably be here on Monday, but if it's not here by Wed. or Thursday, then you should worry".<br>
I have not tried to speak with a counselor, should I?
I'm taking AP exams this Monday, but my Mom said that she would drive there and show the xerox copies, and printed out e-mail to show that my efforts were all in good faith, if need be.
Please advise me.</p>

<p>UVa mail sucks, i wouldn't worry. it takes forever to get stuff.</p>

<p>jags,
You have no idea what a relief your message gave me. Thanks for telling me that. My life was flashing before my eyes. I'm still going to follow this closely of course.</p>

<p>No problem--cville postal workers seem to march to the beat of a different drummer. I had birthday cards floating in 2 weeks after their postmarked date.</p>

<p>Note to next year's applicants- </p>

<p>It's a good idea to purchase Delivery Confirmation (.60) when you mail your enrollment forms, as they will give you a postmarked receipt that shows you mailed your forms. If you needed proof of mailing, you would have it.</p>

<p>But don't panic yet, jj - first class mail can sometimes take 8 business days if the postal zones are far apart.</p>

<p>I regularly use DC on most important mail that needs a specific postmark. Cheap insurance.</p>

<p>Yes, that's good advice, of course. It really isn't about the $. I really should have sent it overnight. Something in the back of my mind thought that since they said "post mark", I thought they wouldn't appreciate loads of fedex things arriving that needed to be signed for.
Good Lord, what was I thinking. I'm going to contact a counselor on Monday, and maybe, with luck, I can see if Dean J sees my thread and can help me and offer advice over the weekend to me.
In the history of the world, I can't be the only one to find themselves in this situation? And by the sounds of C'ville mail service, I may not even have a "situation".</p>

<p>I'm no expert, but I honestly can't imagine they wouldn't let you enroll due to a mail room mishap. There are far too many things that can go wrong. The post office loses things from time to time, it could have fallen on the floor, the uva mailroom as has been said is far from fantastic (they lost a bunch of my things), etc.</p>

<p>I would call and ask, but I doubt it will be a problem if it wasn't your fault they lost it.</p>

<p>Not sure how this helps you but I Fed-exed mine in from the other side of the world and everything was fine.</p>

<p>Yeah, I know, I screwed up. Somehow, I wasn't thinking right. I'm going to call on Monday morning if I can work it in around AP exams. I personally agree with ehiunno, I can't see that they won't work with me on this one. I didn't drop the ball. They said have it post-marked by 5/1/07, I had good intent, and did so----or so I think. My e-mails to them reflect that I am honestly concerned about my status. Thanks for responding though! Hope to see you soon on Mr. Jefferson's Grounds!</p>

<p>Dean J,
You must be finally taking a well deserved break after this long admissions process.
If by chance you read this, I'd love to have your take on things.
My Dad assures me that my envelope will arrive tomorrow and that all will be fine. I hope he's right. Then I can finally rest.
I did order lots of UVA stuff yesterday afternoon!! That was fun!!</p>

<p>bump (10char)</p>

<p>If you had applied online then you can check your application status here:</p>

<p><a href="http://applyonline.virginia.edu/Admissions/status/%5B/url%5D"&gt;http://applyonline.virginia.edu/Admissions/status/&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p>

<p>They might have received your deposit today.</p>

<p>Does that change when they get the reply form and check?
I did go there to the site over the weekend, and it still had the initial "Offered Admissions" and congratulatory note.
I'll check it right now.
I do hope they got it today. I certainly don't want to be a pest and keep calling them.
I did leave them an e-mail from over the weekend, and they responded around 9 am saying that they hadn't received anything yet, but I suspect they hadn't received their mail for the day yet.
Thanks for responding. I'm going to go online right now.</p>

<p>Just checked it and it hasn't changed. "Offered Admission" and congrats.
So your status changed?</p>

<p>Yup. Mine says "Tuition Deposit Received."</p>

<p>Thank you so much for telling me that. You are a God-send!</p>

<p>Well, my status site has not changed. I talked with the admissions office today and offered to re-send my forms and check by Fed Ex, and they said "oh no, that can't be done at this time". They were very polite, but direct, and said I should check back in 24-48 hours. They did ask me "how are you tracking this?"--Well, since I sent it regular mail, the only tracking I have are my e-mails starting on 5/1/7 and a FAX I sent them on 5/1/7 verifying my correct SS# (but in it I said that I was accepting their offer of enrollment).
Of course, I am trying to stay calm, but my imagination is running wild. This is supposed to be when we all can relax in senior year, but with AP's and not having a secure spot, I am anything but relaxed.
Dean J, if you are out there, please offer advice and take me under your wing.</p>

<p>Yes! I'm finally official! My status site did change---thanks srk_fx!</p>

<p>I think the internet has spoiled us. We get immediate confirmations when we transfer money, pay bills, or order something from a catalog and get nervous when we don't hear anything.</p>

<p>All deadlines are postmark deadlines. We know that mail with a May 1st postmark on it will trickle in over the next week because the mail travels at different speeds in different places. </p>

<p>Remember that deadlines also mean a lot of paper to process by our administrative staff. They log the deposits in as quickly as possible, but they have a few thousand to get through, so it can take a little time. To those still in JJ's spot, be patient. Your status should change in the next few days.</p>

<p>Ah!!! There you are!
You are so very right! I feel so relieved right now, and am so happy to finally, really belong to UVA
Thanks Dean J</p>
