Dean's Honors Scholarship

Does anyone know how many people applied for it. I did, and I was just wondering what the competition was? Thanks!

I did as well. If I may ask, mpundmann, what did you do with the box?

Heh... I did a painting.

What did you do frydfrog?

I did a collage with the tulane shield over it, its pretty cool...we'll see what happens, i cant wait for feb 20th

I made a piece of artwork, though I'm not really sure what to call it. Perhaps a poster?
It's really difficult to explain because it has so many components.
How long was your commentary, and what was the subject of your painting, beastieboy?

My commentary was the title of the artwork. It was abstract art, like Jackson Pollock.

What did you guys do for your projects?

I didn't actually apply for it last year, but I know they hate "contrived" stuff like having Tulanian spirit (i.e. NOBODY has real Tulanian spirit until you go there) or imagined honors (e.g. next president, TIME magazine cover, becoming a billionaire with the goal of single handedly ending world hunger).

You'd be surprised of how few people apply for it though. My guess is that you're competing with around a thousand other applicants. About half of those would be seriously in the running.

Well, at least I have a one in ten shot then.

wait seriously? if thats true than I am honestly screwed, WOW, why would they not like that, I actually kind of have tulane spirit so im really confused. ok, well at least thats good to know thanks.

Who knows, maybe they'll like it!
I did a sort of music/science fusion thing (as I'm a serious science person who loves and plays a lot of music) by making a paper guitar out of the box, or actually providing instructions and labeling the box to have them see the world through my eyes by... well, basically doing the project for me... it's hard to explain haha.

Genuine Tulane spirit is REALLY hard to come by, unless something like your whole family went there and they've been donating beaucoup money.

We lost our Homecoming, and hardly anyone goes to football games. Baseball is a different story, but for the most part, Tulane is lacking in the spirit department. We wear the shirts mostly because they're free and people don't like doing laundry...

I did a sort-of last minute project about my home town and basically about the things I like to do here. I drew a face on my box and took pictures with it in various places around town, and wrote about it.

I didn't realize that as an architecture applicant, I'd need a portfolio, until the Thursday before it was due. I hope that the portfolio isn't weighted too heavily...

Ummm... Are you sure you needed the portfolio? Are you sure that wasn't for grad students?

Tulane School of Architecture :: Applying as an Entering Freshman

Does anyone know how heavily they weigh the stats, because my stats are a little "low", in comparison to the project?

I think the stats just get you in the door. What they really look for is a creative project.

so do you think that I could get through the door with a 32 on my act and a decent class rank at a really difficult school?

Tulane says that they encourage anyone with a 33+ to apply. I have a 32 as well and went ahead and applied. I also go to the most competitive school in my state and own a successful Internet start-up.

Just because they encourage people with a 33+ ACT doesn't mean you can't apply with something lower. Keep in mind though that you will be competing against people with scores 34-36. With a good, creative project and otherwise stellar credentials I can't see why anyone with a 32 or even a 31 couldn't get it. A 32 is a very good score. It is in the top percentile, and it was only very recently when Tulane became more competitive that people with higher ACTs started applying. When I visited a little over a year ago they recommended a 32 for DHS applicants.

Crap. I photo shopped a picture of me on Fox News being awarded a Nobel Prize for solving avian flu, and I wrote an essay about my interest in avian and how I thought Tulane would be a good fit for my passion to go along with it.

How are you so sure they hate "contrived" stuff?

its ok im in the same boat, whatever, btw that is the only advice/credentials that I have heard of, so who knows?
