What GPA and unit count makes you eligible for the Dean's List?

Thanks! :)

What GPA and unit count makes you eligible for the Dean's List?

Thanks! :)

3.75. Or 3.66 (I believe) and have at least 56 grade points. (So I guess that works out to be a little more than 15 units?)

See, I was thinking something like that but it looks like they do it by quarter.. shrug

The Dean's Honors list recognizes high scholastic achievement in any one term. The following criteria are used to note Dean's Honors on the student records:
1) a 3.75 GPA in any one term with at least 12 graded units and no grade of NP or I or
2) a 3.66 GPA and at least 56 grade points during the term, with no grade of NP or I.

Really? I did not even think about the Honors List. Do they tell you that you've made it or anyhting, or does it actually show up on your records?

Its on your DPR, and it appears as the very last thing under each of your quarter grade breakdown that you qualify.

anyone know invitations are sent out for ALD & PES??
http://www.studentgroups.ucla.edu/aldpes/

I randomly received some certificate and pin congratulating me for making ald/pes last spring (which up until that point, I've never heard about). I'm guessing a ton of people gets it since you only need a B gpa to get in right? Doesn't seem very special to me... sounds like just another one of those "honor rolls" in high school where all your friends in your honors classes gets in and you get some pat on the back (except you have to actually pay for your certificate and pin in college, and your fee also entitles you to what they call "benefits" that I've never even heard about or seen).

"To qualify for membership in either Alpha Lambda Delta or Phi Eta Sigma, students must attain 12 or more UCLA graded units with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in the first quarter of their freshmen year or a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher at the end of their freshmen year...Those students who qualify to join the freshmen honor societies will be sent invitations automatically from the Office of the Dean of Students during the winter quarter of their freshmen year."

so i guess they contact/invite you during Spring quarter...?

Hmm... I thought they sent an invite to a dinner that was held during spring quarter. It may have been late winter quarter though.

there was a little invitation thing that you got as a notice on my.ucla. if you got a 3.5+ last quarter and it was held at covel at 9pm last tuesday i think

it was about a little honors society thing.. i didnt go but i remember seeing it

I don't think that was aldpes, because they only have 1 recruitment session a year since their letter said last year if you didn't pay them by a certain date, you had to wait until the same time next year when they hold their event again to be inducted.

Its prob yet another gpa recognition program.

lol that thing at covel...wasnt it sent the same day or something? i remember logging in myUCLA @ around 10 PM ontuesday, and going uhh that's...great...to...know... haha o well.

What are the benefits of the ALD-PES honors society thing? it costs $65 to join so is it really beneficial to be in?

I've yet to see any benefits. You get all these snail mail and emails prior to your "induction" which mainly say pay them your money ASAP so you can enjoy all these wonderful benefits, and as soon as the money is in their hands, all contact magically disappears. They hold 1 general meeting all quarter, so what can you really accomplish w/ that? It's probably more productive/beneficial at other universities.

I've yet to see the benefits too!!!

I paid for Alpha Lambda Delta / Phi Eta Sigma (ALD/PES) AND for National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS)... really not much to it. Mostly service activities and some limited scholarships. I compare them with high school CSF; not TOO hard to get in, although not everyone does (well, it's actually not that easy to get 3.5+ at UCLA... just think how many people DON'T have that!), and mostly service activities. hmm... actually NSCS is kinda annoying... they send me a lot of emails, and they have "scam"-type programs similar to those ones during high school (i.e. pay a program fee for an internship in DC/NYC). I think these honors societies will only be beneficial if you are an officer and actively involved.

The really big ones are Golden Key and Mortar Board (upperclassmen only). Those are more comparable to "NHS" as opposed to "CSF." Then there's Phi Beta Kappa... if you get into this, well then, you're too cool for just cum laude.

On the positive side, the ALD/PES induction ceremony wasn't bad (my parents really enjoyed it actually), and to put it into perspective, there are a lot more students who DON'T get 3.5+ GPA than those who do.

What does being on the Dean’s List do? Are there any benefits to being on the list other than just the honor of having it on your DPR?
Also, one of my professors did not enter the assignments for the fall quarter and so my grade as it currently appears on the DPR is a D- however, the TA emailed my real grade which is an A. However, he can only change it in January when school opens again. Will I still be regarded in the Dean’s List or can this possibly miss the deadline for being on the list if there is one? My other grades are A- and A. 13 units.

^I’m wondering if there’s a deadline, too. Bc one of my profs. just submitted my grade this morning, and even though it’s on URSA, it doesn’t say Dean’s List below my coursework (w/4.0 GPA). I think if it’s not up there by the time we return to school, I’ll just email my honors counselor. It seems to me that if it’s a professor’s error, the student shouldn’t be held liable and the deadline (if it exists) should be flexible. Let me know if you find out anything!

What does “56 grade points during the term” mean at UCLA?
Does summer term count for dean list?

The Dean’s Honors list recognizes high scholastic achievement in any one term. The following criteria are used to note Dean’s Honors on the student records:

Grade points are the total value you get when you multiply the total units you have taken in the term with the points you get for the grades you earned. Earning an A (4 grade points) for a 4-unit class gives you 4x4 = 16 grade points.

I’m not sure if you can get on the Dean’s List for a summer term. I think the biggest obstacle is enrolling in enough courses for the summer to qualify for that.
