Does anyone know anything about the Gtown policy debate program?

And additionally: would being successful in debate/forensics (competitive public speaking) at the high school level count as a "hook" in the admissions process? And how would you go about making this evident to an adcom?

i'm going to assume they have some really good debate programs considering that all the cocky future president types apply there. that being said, debate/forensics is probably not a hook. i'm not too happy about that since i'm a public speaking junkie too...

This year my partner and I are consistently ranked as one of the top 2-3 teams in the state as juniors, and next year we will, if current trends continue, be the top team. My state is very actively involved in debate, but most teams generally stay inside the state, with only a handful of exceptions. However, we'll be debating national circuit for sure though next year, just because there's such a wider variety of opportunities there. We're very good on the statewide level at least, if that counts for anything.

Yeah one of my friends got 2nd speaker at the TOC but didnt get a full scholarship to dartmouth so he took a full scholarship to USC and is doing well debating there

My understanding is that Georgetown really has two debate teams, the intercollegiate one practices the parliamentary format typical of college debate and not policy. The intracolleigate program is called the Philodemic Society http://philodemic.georgetown.edu/main.html; they debate amongst themselves in a room that resembles the House of Commons; it's pretty cool if you're into that sort of thing.
