Thank you very much for answering my questions! Do you have the list of students who are qualified for the Worlds so far this year, and/or the schools they respresent?

From SPS:

Debate Team Last Sunday the Debate team traveled to Roxbury Latin to compete in their debate tournament. This is one of the most competitive tournaments of the year, with 16 schools and 116 debaters participating. Numbers wise, this is the same number of schools as are in the entire ISL. Many of our individual debaters were recognized, with and receiving first novice team, receiving second advanced speaker, and and receiving first advanced team and getting the opportunity to participate in an exhibition debate on the resolution “Santa’s helpers are unjustly oppressed.” The debate team as a whole did exceptionally well, winning first place out of the 16 schools at the tournament, continuing their winning streak and cementing their place as the most unapologetically dominant team in the league.

Excellent topic about Santa’s helpers! Debate is probably the thing that my son is looking forward to the most about BS. It’s great to know that competitive debate is alive and well.

Ha, I wanted to go to that tournament (I love Boston and Roxbury) but I and a number of other hotchkiss debaters (ha, including at least one captain) had mid-term exams to study for and couldn’t go. I hate mid-terms

Hotchkiss, Choate and St. Paul’s seem to be dominating the DANEIS tournaments his fall. I know through a relative that Choate qualified two more students for Worlds at the tournament in Boston this weekend, for a total of four I think. Not sure how their parents are going to get them to Lithuania though- any ideas on that? Does the school pay for the trip?

LOL. You completely missed my point.

I went to a Canadian public school in Nova Scotia. The first year I went to McGill I made semifinals and placed in the top 10 individually. Last year they made a tabbing mistake that messed up our team ranking but I was still in the top 10. This year, if I’m correct, it was a Nova Scotian final and the public school won out. On the whole though, debating is heavily dominated by private schools, even in Canada. A good public school is almost always the underdog.

and about the Worlds thing, I was talking about how they end up doing AT Worlds. I don’t know anything about the selection process.
