Debaters Unite!

oo. yeah. I'm a faithful LDer and I'm going to try out OO or OA :) YAY debate! Our debate team dinner is on the last day of final exams, so I am SUPER DUPER excited to go!

I am an addicted LD-er. Unfortunately, in the small school division (class A) in Oklahoma, LD debate is shrinking. Rather quickly. This year at state, all but two finalists (myself and a friend of mine) were seniors.

I do IE's too. I hate Extemp, though, because I have to think too much. Way too early in the morning. So, I do acting events. This year I did HI, DI, PO, and HD..........

yeah. Our LD team has become worse over the years because our LD coach passed away a few years ago and so all the really good people he coached that won national tournaments and went to TOC have graduated. SO now we are student coached by varsity. It's tough. In the beginning of the year, all these freshmen and sophomores join debate and eventually as it becomes more time-consuming, they crap out and quit. Haha.I like watching this happen, because it separates the flakes from the truly dedicated debaters. :)

BUMP and also just a little thing that makes debate so fun:

We (i and fellow debaters) came back from a league tournament and decided to go eat dinner at Chili's. A couple of guys saw us in our business-attire and began chanting "DEBATE! DEBATE! DEBATE!" and our hearts burst with pride and we all joined in the chanting. Chili's was rockin' that night.

^hah. corny to the max, i know. but hey. debate=LOVE.

OMG ANISHA MY TEAM WENT TO A CHILIS AFTER OUR LEAGUE TOURNEY TOO!!
And our waitress went to State for Policy in Hawaii, and we all burst into applause and stuff for her. You should've seen it, it was AWESOME. And we were being loud as per usual and someone from atable nearby leaned over and yelled, "ARE YOU GUYS IN SPEECH AND DEBATE?" And we're all like, yeah!! And he goes, "I THOUGHT SO...THE LOUDNESS AND ALL."

It was HILAR. I LOVE speech.

Uhh anyone else do Public Forum? Anyone? At all...

Hm. At our school, not a lot of people do Public Forum (pofo). Does anybody at my school do pofo? (wonder...) OKAY. I'm not quite sure. My school is known for IE-we did really well at States this year. I think we do quite well in Extemp and OPP.

Anisha, what school do you go to? Judging by the fact that you have OPP, you're from CA?

yeapp. I go to Monta Vista.

Well, I do Policy at a school in Southern Cal. We don't like the local circuit much, but that's 'cause we've become so acclimated to the national circuit that most of us are totally unable to adapt. :P

pofo? LMAO!!!
Policy is the second most popular debate event at my school, right after Congress. LD is just 2 people, and policy is nonexistent in the STATE.
xGods_Favoritex : Thanks for the New England Prep debate link. I was really hoping they did the National Forensic League stuff, because I do LD. Oh well. Maybe I can start LD at Andover?

Maybe.... anything's possible at Andover. Technically.

Btw are you coming next year? What year are you entering?

OMG Anisha...I went to Lynbrook my freshman year!!! How awesome! (:

Now I go to a SoCal school called Arcadia though...we have NO policy teams. It makes me want to cry [I did policy my freshman year] ):

xGods_Favoritex: I HOPE I can go to Andover my junior year (07-08). Of course, the little condition attached to that is whether or not I actually get in. :D

Haha, gotcha. Let me know how it goes and feel free to PM me for questions or whatever.

yeah.
policy debater here.
much more intense.
much more time consuming.
much more action.

I personally like Parli better than Policy [to me, it's got more action/intensity, with less extreme commitment/time consuming], but I was still outraged by the lack of policy, not because the debaters didn't WANT it, but rather because the coach REFUSED to support it.
