Debating whether or not to take AP English Language exam

Should I continue my self-study of the AP English Language and Composition exam?

Reasons FOR self-studying AP English Language:
-Lots of free time
-Already started: Learned 100 lit terms out of CliffNotes prep book(which I will give to my bro if I don't use it), did a sample test, learned the format of the test
-Will get national AP scholar by the end of this year(senior) if I take this exam
-Pretty sure I can get a 4
-I'm good at material that's standardized
-Won't have to take any other general education English course w/ my major

Reasons AGAINST self-studying AP English Language:
-I can play games and relax
-It'll be an extra $86 I'll have to pay
-Not that fluid in English writing as I'd like to be
-My sentence syntax is too basic
-I always end up spending a lot more time trying to express my ideas on paper than I need to. The essay comes out fine, but it takes a while to spew out my ideas in my head onto paper in an organized fashion
-People say my writing is pretty stiff, possibly monotonous
-Never really had a good English teacher since 7th grade(even though I got A's in the courses)
-Want to write well for scholarship essays in future college years

I'll probably be going to one of the higher tier UCs, so I want to know how effective the intro English courses will be in influencing my writing. Even if I don't ever need to write in my career again, being proficient in English is a valuable asset to me. Anyways, let me know what you think. Thanks.

I am just as curious as you Sagert.

If you really know what the essays - rhetorical analysis, argumentative, and syntax - are looking for then I say go for it. Practicing those essays is the best thing that you can do. Our AP Lang teacher is actually one of the graders for College Board, and she scores all our essays on the 9 point scale which I think is so helpful. If you can, I would have a trusted English teacher - the older the better  - take a look at an example of each type and compare it to the grading scale.

I am enrolled in that class right now, and I have not learned very much so far that I have not known before.
I would say the only thing to review is some rhetorical/literary terms and try some practice ap exams on college board.
If you do well on writing then I think it is better off not to take the class because you will not be learning very much as you hink you would be.
Also, make sure you are aware of many different published works, you might have to reference these in your essays that you write on the AP Exam.

Having said this, having a teacher is always helpful :)

Take it. Take it. Take it.

I guess I will take it. !
