DECA: Any influence on admissions?

I've heard some people say one of the first things they were asked at a college interview was if they were members of DECA, and I've heard some people say colleges could care less. Opinions?

“could care less” it’s actually “couldn’t care less”. And yeah, why would they care? Obviously if you’re very passionate about it and are heavily involved, it’s a plus, but a lot of people aren’t involved in DECA. I am personally of the opinion that these organizations-- like DECA-- are kind of one dimensional. I feel as though adcoms wouldn’t be particularly depressed by it.

Impressive or not, a friend of D’s secured a HUGE amount of scholarship money through her DECA activities. Don’t ask me exactly how that works, but the total was impressive - well into the low to mid-five figures. Combine that with some good OOS merit money at a Big 10 school, and she’s well on her way to paying for college. That alone might make it a worthwhile EC.

If you do well in DECA competitions it is impressive
