A large part of my extra cirricular/leadership activities are associated with DECA. Do colleges respect this orginazation? They cannot question my ability because I was ranked 1st in the state in a highly competitive area: International Business Plan. I am also captain of a Quiz Bowl team that finished 2nd in the southern region of New Jersey, and am ranked 4th in the state in E-Commerce. All of this took place in my first year with DECA (I'm already VP of my 120 member chapter)- I still have two years more to go, but should I continue to spend time with this club? I'm considering the selective schools right now: U Penn (ED), U Chicago, NYU, Duke, Northwestern, U Michigan. I could use any advice :)

How are you ranked so high if its just your first year. Only two months have passed since the school year started.

Sorry I guess I wasn't very clear. I am currently in my second year in DECA, but all the achievments I listed were from my first year(last school year). Does that clear things up?

yea... you should do DECA it is a lot of fun and its a good thing to list as an EC i listed it on mine (4th E-commerce) plus it has a lot of volunteer activities built in at most schools

Yep clears it all up. Still pretty impressive.

You should continue with this program if its something you like to do. Colleges like to see commitment and passion. Something you can show by staying with this thru high school.

thanks. I would really like to stay with it, I just wanted to make sure that it is a respected organization

I know of one girl whose main EC was DECA, and she ended up getting into Northwestern and Berkeley - both top schools. So it looks like DECA is fine as an EC.
