Still waiting for the Writing score too … which is odd since last year I got the Writing score pretty early (like only a couple days after the non-Writing components came out)

guys, don’t worry about the writing scores. They usually come out about a week after the composite. Anyway, the writing score basically does not count for anything. I don’t think there is any school that even reports the average writing/english score of accepted students. (I have not seen a single school web site that ever listed anything about the average accepted writing score. Yes, it’s on the score report, but it is not a significant factor.) Unless you score like a 2 (which probably still wouldn’t make a difference) forget about writing. The key is the composite score. It is what the schools use to screen applications. The composite is what counts, much more than any one section. Good luck to all.

p.s. follow up on writing score not that important…
SOME nationally ranked schools like Caltech or U. Chicago don’t require the ACT writing.
the writing score does not make a big difference.
it’s all about the composite #

My son just got his scores for his first ACT, which were amazing:

English 34
Math 34
Reading 36
Science 35
Comp 35

He’s a Junior. We’re on a semester system, and he hasn’t had math in a while. Math is actually his strength, so he could probably ace that if he took it again sometime in the spring or next fall, but I’m wondering if there’s any need/point. Also I suspect that the 36 reading involved a bit of lucky guessing, and he may not get quite that lucky again next time (though it would probably still be in the 34ish range anyhow). thoughts?

He’s looking at some pretty competitive schools and/or merit scholarships, though doesn’t have his heart set on anywhere in particular.

Thanks,
Proud mom :)

English: 31
Math: 24
Reading: 30
Science: 25
Composite: 28

I completely lost focus during science, lost track of time and the last section of physics threw me off. I would have done worse if I did not take Chemistry. I’m happy with my scores, I’m a Junior, and I plan to do much better. The AP English helps. I did way better on my math and science last ACT. a 28 and 27.

I loved the reading sections on this ACT, especially the first one with the science fiction kind of thing exploring a new planet.

My daughter finally got her writing score in this morning, exactly one week after her composite score is posted.

My d’s first try in her junior year, c34, e32,m35,r34,s33. W8. Should she retake it?

I got a 31. Hmm, it could be better, but a 34 in Math is much better than a 670 on SAT Math.

from what students at my school are saying, writing scores are being added every day, not just twice a week. so check your online account

Son is, needless to say, ecstatic (and so are his parents!):

Math: 36
English: 36
Reading: 36
Science: 35
Composite: 36 :)

This was the second time I took it and I did worst this time.

First Time: E:32, M:25, R:33, S:29 C:30
Second Time: E:30, M:23, R:36 (wish I had gotten this score, the first time around), S:26 C:29

still havent even gotten my composite…

Question about the writing.

I have already taken the ACT 3 times(31,31,33) and I’m now happy with it but I haven’t taken the writing.

Do many schools require the writing? I really don’t want to take it again.

Absolutely. With those high scores I assume you are applying to some high schools, most of which require writing. Why have you never taken it with writing?

check out the schools you are applying to and see if they want the writing.
most want it.
so if you want to apply to a school that wants writing, take the next test available.

how was the test in december? from 1-10

I don’t know how my son would rate it, but he went from a 33 in June to a 36 in December. He did NOT do any studying before the December test. Maybe his first semester classes helped… maybe the test was easier. He did feel better about his time management for the December test, however.

By not taking the written test, it is a waste of money. University of California requires written score from the same test sitting. I think only schools that do superscore allow you to take written test on different date.

wow looking at this thread only one 36? lol there were 8 perfect SAT’s this month and it seems a 36 is easier to get.

^the people who get 2400s don’t NEED to take the ACTs
