December 2009 SAT Writing Thread

I just hope the January one to be averaged and a bit easier. My critical reading has gone up for the last three days. I hope I can keep that up cause I’m going to be doing more of those in Princeton Review. The December test wasn’t anything compared to the averaged test of November.

I hope the Writing curve will look like this:

-1 = 800
-2 = 800
-3 = 770
-4 = 740
-5 = 720
-6 = 700
-7 = 680
-8 = 660
-9 = 640
-10 = 630
-11 = 610
-12 = 590

^ Sometime in 2007 I took the SAT and for writing, omitted 1, 0 wrong, 9 on essay, got a 770…idk if that helps or not as far as the curve prediction.

^ What do you predict the December’s will be like?

@ Eagle wasnt the october one more generous?

I don’t know. I didn’t take the October exam. Do you think you know what a raw score of 37 and a 5 essay would be for the December 09?

I think the answer choice with “given” had other errors in it. Otherwise, it would’ve been better than “with.” But “with” is not grammatically wrong.

How many no errors are in the writing section??

i had 5…I don’t remember where, but I think exactly 20 % of the questions (sentence and grammar, not correcting the essay) are “no error”.

@hopeful, I would estimate that score would be around a 530.

Howcome does the CB blue book says it’s around 620-760?

"i had 5…I don’t remember where, but I think exactly 20 % of the questions (sentence and grammar, not correcting the essay) are “no error”. "

Other people and I had 3. o.O

^ he’s counting every sentence…not just the identifying sentence error ones, so you have to keep in mind the ones marked A.

do you mean 5 out of 6 or 5 out of 12 if you mean 5 out of 6 your score is higher than 530

^ I meant 10/12 essay with 10x is how much? Mid 600s right?

about 630 HE86

So an 11x is 610 right?
If you get 600-630 on the Writing section, is it any worth to concentrate on it again or focus on the V and M afterwards?

Well it truly depends on what kinds of schools you are aiming for and depends what your Verbal and Math score is as well

I already finished applying to State schools. So is a 600+ on writing good to call it quit?
If I apply to Private schools as a transfer, how bad will the 600+ on writing look compared to freshmen admissions?

"HOW MUCH DAMAGE HAS HUMAN FISHING DONE TO THE OCEAN? We thought we could fish forever, because the sea was a limitless protein mine. But dawning now is a realization that we were wrong about that. But how naive were we? And what price will be paid? Ocean life is dying back in unexpected ways: although there are fewer fish and other sea animals, more of them are starving, while waves of ‘sickness’ spread as primitive microbes gain the upper hand. Symptoms include spreading ‘dead zones,’ harmful algae blooms and a diminished presence of sea animal life in general. Is fishing implicated in all of this? This website challenges accepted views of how the ocean works and suggests an new interpretation of today’s trends: failing ocean fertility induced by fishing. (Also challenged is Canada’s decision to ignore seal diseases. Nov 9/06: Brief to MPs)

Atlantic Canada reveals what is probably the clearest evidence anywhere of the ecosystem-effects of persistent human fishing. The early 1990’s crash of the once great Canadian cod stock is held up as a global cautionary tale against fisheries mismanagement, against greedy human ‘overfishing.’ But less well known is that the story is not that simple, that, at the level of scientific detail, so much has gone severely and unexpectedly wrong in Atlantic Canada…that the most basic assumptions underlying the ‘science of overfishing/sustainable fishing’ must now be questioned.

Zooplankton were unexpectedly and inexplicably lost along with Canadian fish stocks. If, as seems likely, this is part of the ecosystem impact of fishing, then this finding has global significance.

This website chronicles my observations, the evolution of my ideas about what is happening to ocean life, and my attempts to draw attention to politically undesirable information about changes in the natural world."
