I think Japan question has been already settled, but I’ll provide some proof on why I think it’s correct.
“Mounting Japanese trade surpluses increased friction between Japan and its trading partners in Europe and the United States. Japan’s critics charged that the country advocated free trade abroad but maintained a closed market at home, engaged in “adversarial trade” designed to benefit only Japan, and pushed trade to export domestic unemployment during economic hard times, and there were complaints that Japan sold goods abroad at lower than domestic prices—a charge denied by Japanese business and government leaders.”
*“Japan.” Encyclop

was this test identical to the test in 2007 June? I just checked out the thread for 2007 June world history testakers and they pretty much talked about the EXACT same things that we’ve been doing here. Maybe I just went to the wrong place :P…

^^^^^
I just checked, and it is different.

I think I am wrong about #50… another AC was that Ottomans blocked land routes, I believe that one is correct.

@Herunar
I do not usually answer questions without looking at them, and I believe it is the same for the majority of us.

The question did specifically say what Chinese had to do due to Nanking (Nanjing) Treaty because:

-Choice E said that trade of opium was allowed to be stopped, which obviously did not happen. In case the question said “EXCEPT”, there would have been two correct answers which is not possible.

-The Nanking Treaty did not say anything about longevity of cession of Hong Kong. In the article concerning Hong Kong it only said:
It being obviously necessary and desirable that British subjects should have some port whereat they may [maintain] and refit their ships when required, and keep stores for that purpose, His Majesty the Emperor of China cedes to Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain, &c., the Island of Hong-Kong, to be possessed in perpetuity by Her Britannic Majesty, her heirs and successors, and to be governed by such laws and regulations as Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain, &c., shall see fit to direct.
The arrangement that ceded Hong Kong to British for 99 years was the “Convention of Peking”.

I hope this question has been settled.

The Island of Hong Kong was ceded to Britain permanently; this territory was later expanded to include the Kowloon peninsula. The Convention of Peking leased the New Territories to Britain for 99 years, not Hong Kong.

50. The Portuguese sought a sea route to India and the Far East because the traditional land routes were constricted by the Ottoman Empire.

post#208
Which further consolidates your answer as wrong. The answer choice had “99 years” in it, which was not included in the Nanking Treaty.

@garymoon
13. The Kingdom of Zimbabwe was actually quite small in land area compared to empires like Songhay.
62. Huanghe.
The rest of your answers seem to be fine. Your memory is impressive, by the way.

@Herunar

I think the question about what they didn’t have to do was in Collegeboard’s practice test book so you’re confusing it with that one.

Hey guys, I remember another question, it is about one statement of Buddha’s, and I put “life is full of suffering”

Yeah, that’s right. Question was about which of the following being one of the statements of the Four Noble Truths.

Thanks herunar… I think your right… Ottoman’s blockage of land was the impetus, also Huang He… As for my memory, I managed to finish the test in 40 minutes and spent the last 20 minutes just staring at pages… I have a partial photographic memory which is how I could memorize about 85 questions of the test. Also, when I think of it, Zimbabwe wasn’t actually that big so W. Africa fits for both population and size.

I think you are right AlmaLlarie, I remember that Buddhist question… that makes 86 total then…

what was the question about european politicians in the 1980s and 1990s? i think it was about why the far left was supported… i remember two options were disliking foreigners and standing up to the u.s.

was there a rape of Nanjing question?

50 is correct gary moon. although you have a couple incorrect. Does any1 remember the wording for the “pilgrimmage to Mecca” where answer is start of calendar?

Does any1 remember jihad as an answer?

edit: maybe i blanked out and put jihad? was that even a choice?

Collegebound41, Jihad was answer C or B, I believe.

Actually, I’m with Herunar on #50. The Spanish discovering that they could go to the East by sailing west didn’t really have much to do with the Portuguese navigating around Africa; it was more that the Portuguese didn’t have any direct access to the East because the Ottomans were in the way, iirc.
