Place to discuss the test! Thoughts, feelings, qualms, anything!

Can we discuss the questions now?
Anyways…not so bad

It wasn’t all that bad. But it was fairly hard.

It was okay in my opinion. What did you guys get for the question which asked why there was high quality art in the Netherlands? also, what did u guys put the question which asked about the beliefs of Muhammad?

The art one was because of rich people supporting it. For the MOhammad one i wrote that jesus, ----- were prophets. Not sure about the latter.

So the rich people supported art in Italy and Northern Europe? I thought it was only the former for some reason so I put that Italians moved north which was very stupid of me. I out the same for the Muhammad one

Hmmm. Anyway i’m not THAT sure. Especially about the Mohammad one. Let’s try and make a list of questions? Like the road one, ( INcas and Romans) Panama, ( Columbia, but i got it wrong), the quote about Ashoka, glasnost, also the major threat to the portueguese were the dutch right? And Europeans could trade with Asians because of imports from West Africa and Brazil?

To DjangoIRL,

–I think the glasnost one was that Gorbachev wanted it, but it was ineffective and economically unsuccessful.
–Also for the trade with Europe/Asia, I put Canada and the West Indies (Canada had fur, and the Caribbean had sugar). I don’t think things were directly imported from West Africa at the particular time period (1500s? it was before that with the Portuguese).
–Portuguese vs. Dutch, yes
–For Panama, I thought it was the UK, but I was dead wrong!
–For Muhammad, he went to Medina, and it was the start of the calendar
–Tikal: Maya
–Glorious Rev/French/American: it was the start of representative gov (got that wrong too)
–Rome and slaves: they were prisoners of war (I put criminals…darn)
–Englightenment language: French (that’s where it originated…also don’t forget Rosseau, Voltaire, Montesqieu, etc.)

I left 5 questions blank, and got 4 wrong for sure, but I am dying to get an 800! This was my 2nd time taking the test, and I definitely learned time management skills!

About the Enlightenment question, I went with English.

The NOAD enlightenment entry mention says, “Descartes (French), Locke (English), and Newton (English), and its prominent exponents include Kant (German), Goethe (German), Voltaire (French), Rousseau (French), and Adam Smith (English).” Parentheses mine.

So according to this we have

English - 3
French - 3
German - 2

French makes sense, I suppose.

Yea that would be a good idea. Hopefully more people will join soon. I got incas and Romans for roads. I got the panama question wrong as well. For the Ashoka question I put that it’s similar to enlightened monarchy and that it described the prosperity of his rule. For the one about the regions from where slaves were brought in it was West Africa or “C”. I put ottomans were the biggest threat to Portuguese but am not certain. They were very powerful at the time and controlled a ****load of land. For the imports I’m not certain but I put Mexico and Peru. Spain made mad money off the bullion it brought in from Peru. I’m not sure though. Also, Tamik was a city during the Maya’s. For the question regarding jawarhal Nehru which asked what his perspective caused him to do, what did u put. I put state run industries (he praises Marx)

Oh, you’re sooo right about the bullion thing! I absolutely did not think of that. i think Mx and Peru is correct.
For Nehru, I think that answer had to do with Fascism, and then India wanted a parliamentary government.
–for the portuguese one, i really don’t think it was the ottomans. They were competing with the Dutch (remember west india company, etc.)

You’re probably right for the portugese one. For the jawarharal Nehru one, jawaharlal was pretty left winged as shown by this [Modern History Sourcebook: Jawaharlal Nehru: Marxism, Capitalism](Internet History Sourcebooks: Modern History) and praised the Soviet Union immensely. The quote in the question is from this article near the bottom. So I chose the most socialist choice

How did Christianity come to Ethiopia?

Panama- Columbia
Christianity to Ethiopia-missionaires
Enlightenment- French (philosophes, the fact that the king of prussia spoke French)
Ottoman caused Portguese to look for new routes
Dutch competed with Portuguese

Who translated the books?

^ what do you mean by the translation? There was a question about Greek being translated, and I think that was Latin? Also what was it about the description of the fleet in india , and which countrys fleet was there a century later. I just wrote the Ming’s exploration.

BTW Ottomans was the answer to why the Portuguese had to find marine trade routes, and the Dutch were their biggest threat

What did you guys put for the Tanzanian leader’s quote question?
African value and socialism?
and Chinese revolution? Something like that

I am terrified
I skipped eleven and i guessed on like 30 lol

The question about herodotus account of egytpian women
Was it gender bias ?

@arabguy It was cultural comparison :T

I rememeber other questions like the first question: nirvana
Ghana and india independence: Both after WW2
Containment: Anti-communist thingy

Haha wow… looking at your questions I’m glad I didn’t take this test.
