December 2010 ACT Reading Discussion

Harlem question: there was a question about the primary motive or reason for the three authors…i think the choices were:

“they served to redefine the definition of the Renaissance” or
“provided material for their future novels”

and also, why did those other two authors fade into obscurity after the Renessaince was over? one of the choices was that they stopped writing…there may have been one about state archives?

yess i had to scan very quickly and got mongoose and bark.

oh have the black renaissance questions been discussed?

i put they stopped writing because the government stopped funding. it never mentioned state archives anywhere either

It did mention state archives.

o yea i remember i also put mongoose for the animal that did not affect extinction, bark for the part of the tree, and the last question about that girl author for harlem renaissance i put because they were put in state archives

Yeah. State archives. As in, they were never distributed and never gained popularity.

anyone remember the other choices for the report one?

^can you be more specific?

oh, uhm i think where her house in proximity to the sea was a choice.

the last question, was the answer she made the song and dance or the elders made the song and dance?

for the contents of the town meeting… wasnt that the question where they ask which 1 was not part of the passage in the 3rd paragraph. the choice were like the town probably speaks multiple languages…something something o.o but i think i also got the same answer as u

Oh, wasn’t there one like…their works were unknown because they didn’t want to release them.

And, they refused to have their works published?

scotttenzer,

I believe I put

the content of the reports at the town meeting. or whichever was like that one.

^ yea that one

^^correct. they DID mention a language being spoken, the leader’s role, and whatever the last thing ones.

Oh, wasn’t there one like…their works were unknown because they didn’t want to release them.

And, they refused to have their works published?

-can anyone confirm this?

^ No, I think some works were unknown or lost because they were sent to state archives.

I put they went to state archives too, it just asked what most likely happened, and that was the only thing mentioned in the passage as possibly happening.

Oh ok. I remember there was another with the answer choice “they refused to have their works published” or something.

it was not that “they refused to have their works published” since near the beginning of the passage, it was explained that the entire writers’ group was planning to get the works published as an anthology

but i thought it said some writers did their work in secret which lead me to assume that
