Official 12/11 ACT Discussion

No one has started an official discussion yet so here it is: :)

I don't know if we're allowed to discuss ?s/answers yet. Sooo, I'll just start off by saying how I generally did.

I think I did well on the English, Reading, and Science sections. I had a few issues with some of the ?s on the math, ehh, i.e. my answer not being there heh. I usually do horrible on science and I think I did extremely well this time around. Is it just me or was the science easier than usual? hmm, what else...I was running low on time on the reading so I didn't read much of the 4th passage. I just read the 1st and last paragraphs, and I then I answered the questions based on the parts I read and previous knowledge. It was a rather common science topic (I won't say it just in case I can't quite yet), so was reading the entire passage all that necessary?

hehe anyways, discuss! If we can discuss individual questions, then begin!

I think the test was medium in difficulty. English was pretty simple. Math I think
I missed a couple. For question 60 did anyone get 7. Reading was the easiest section. Science was the hardest section

eh, reading was super easy, math was much harder than the last time--there were 2 or 3 that I didn't get the answer to (last time I finished with time left over and double checked my answers :P).

science--2 or 3 that I couldn't get. What were the answers to the last 2 and the one about what would all students agree to?

oh, english was nice as well.

On English.. About the adverb refering to popularity..
What the hell was it? I put "shockingly," but now I think I should have kept it entirely.

Holy crap.. I thought the reading was somewhat difficult. The math wasn't too bad for me though - I had time left over to check most of my answers.

wasn't the last question something like

sqrt(23) * sqrt(ab) * sqrt(3*5)

where the above product is an integer; what must a+b be if a and b are positive primes?

I thought that it'd simplify out to 3sqrt(10a*b).

nvm, i'm an idiot
yeah, it's 7

i couldn't think of two primes whose product was a multiple of 10. wow ....

Yeah, I missed a couple of math, well more like jus guessed on a couple b/c my answers seemed right but weren't options hehe. arghh there was this guy behind me who kept breathing REALLY loud and ONLY during the math section. I was already frustrated by not getting an answer, then when I'd try to find my mistake I'd hear him breathing. At one point I turned around and glared at him, but I felt guilty afterwards lol

What oval was 7 on the math #60? I barely had time to glance over the question so I just filled in...uhh the 2nd or 3rd oval...don't remember

I thought science was easier than usual. There were barely any "short passages" perse but rather graphs/tables that didn't require reading the background info. umm the last 2 science were...don't remember the questions but I don't remember having difficulty with them. What were the ?s? Also, on the science, what days were those stars the dimmest or whatever? 10 and 11? i dunno and the ? right after that one. Was it C by any chance?

The answer to number 59 is the last one (e). It had to do with sines and cosines. anyone remember?

Yeah.. I got lucky on that one.

I stored the value of whatever was given, and started guessing. Got 7.

Yes, bfjava! I had 10-11. How about the last science question..? I just flat out guessed on that. I didn't really read any of the passages this time, and I think it went OK.

bfjava, those are the last 2 science ;)

7 was probably oval 1

seven was the first oval

I didnt think entirely fit, or shockingly, I put one of the other choices. Oh well.

I think it became sqrt(90)*sqrt10 which was 30. Only one that worked. The answer to the hexagon problem anyone remember. I just did 180(6-2) and then subtracted 180 from it since we had to remove the triangle value

Another choice was totally, and I thought that was too slang.

I agree with knavish, totally sounded too slang and illogical. The reading section was actually fun and interesting. Especially the passage about alexandria and the trumpet player

avanex - i thought the question wanted the exterior - the interior sum? guess not, i read it kinda fast. anyways, the way I read it, I got 720 - 360 (all polygons have a sum of 360 degrees for exterior angles). what did the question ask?

for that english one, I put "wildily" or whatever. i agree, totally didn't read and shockingly was definitely wrong. why it be "shockingly" popular if it was crazy cheap? that isn't shocking, of course ppl would like something cheap. the only thing explains how popular it is "wildly" IMO. what do you think?

please excuse my bad grammar and so on. i don't really care, i jus want to know the answers lol

I agree with wildly.. Damn it. I had a 34 Eng last time.. I'll be happy if I break 30 now.

Anyway.. I belive it was interior. I did 720-180

hmm i could have sworn it said interior. Anyone else remember? I am pretty sure it said interior

yea i know it said interior for something, but didn't it mention exterior too? lol i dunno i read this question sooo fast. for some reason i got the idea it wanted exterior - interior. i don't even recall there being a triangle in the middle haha.

on the science, how long did it take for one orbit or whatever it referred to?

The orbit question was weird.. I put 11.
