DECEMBER 2011 SAT Pre/Post Test Discussion

section 3 was experimental

For those of you who didn’t have a writing experimental section:

Was your “end of the section passage” about numbers being too large to comprehend or something else? Thanks guys.

I remember seeing that question for my writing so yes? xD

why do you ask?

what did you get for the scatter plot one? the slope was 0.31 and it was asking if you take out a point, will the slope go up or down…

@hellokitty94
The slope should be (D) Greater than 0.31. The point was clearly below the line and by removing it from the set of points, the average value for x,y should be greater.

Wait @arctk3 you only had one writing section and it was about the numbers, including the classroom chalkboard experiment and the calendar thing or whatever?

Also, for the math. Who knows the answer to the population question

well the general consensus for the america’s population problem, which was one asking about what was the percentage of asian in america was i believe to be 1.2?

@flosser16 I don’t exactly remember reading anything about classroom chalkboard experience or the calendar questions for my writing.

I think the order of my sat went like CR,math,writing,CR,writing,(I forget what I had for 6-7) but eight was math, then I believe it was reading and finally writing xD , also I do remember that only one of my math was student responses

@bob12345
but the point was so off from the line… shouldnt it not make a difference?

@hellokitty94 For the scatter plot, the original slope came from the line of best fit, when you removed the only point that was below all the other ones, the line of best fit would change and so I believe you would get a bigger slope, of course this was my reasoning when I chose D

definitely bigger slope, i plugged the points into my calculator and the slope went from .31 to .64 or something

<a href=“The SAT – SAT Suite | College Board”>The SAT – SAT Suite | College Board;

Hey guys, I think we should email the Collegeboard about that SAT question with the calories. I emailed them saying how it was unfair to assume a student knows that calories includes calories from fat. Even if you got the question correct, please email them for those of us that did not.

@miceman
Are you implying you have never read a Nutrition Label before? Every time you eat a processed food, a Nutrition Fact label is present on it’s boxing/packaging. II asked about confirming a percentage, which is a quotient…so…I don’t understand what’s to complain about it.
Calories & Calories FROM FAT. Calories include fats, proteins, and carbohydrates…don’t you know?

@bob12345 I never read nutrition labels. I am a teenager with a high metabolism.

what was the letter answer to the fraction zyz red drawing problem?

Mice men I understand your position but that’s just how the sat works… It’s the same thing with some writing section questions becausr sometimes you need to have some vocab knowledge even though it’s writing not cr. but it’s worth a shot. A lot of people from my school thought the math section was reasonable to semi difficult and I come from a school where my last months math score was a 700 and I only placed in the 78 percentile in my school.

@miceman
I’m sorry, but being a teenager with a high metabolism has nothing to do with not being able to read nutrition labels. If you can’t read nutrition labels, that’s fine, but a high metabolism would indicate you have to consume more calories, which would lead me to suppose you know more about nutrition…but I’m obviously wrong.

But in addition, micemen, things just don’t always work out. My proctor today never gave a warning as time was running out while doing my essay and was caught off guard. It’s just how the system works

But can somebody tell me what their writing section passage was???

What do you all think the curve is on the Math? I got all of the answers right except the last grid-in, where I thought it said the number of teachers decreased by 8 percent rather than increased. Do you think an 800 is possible after missing 1 grid-in problem?

Math was ok, I guess… got a 600 (kill me) first time I took it and was planning on studying for this one but didn’t really have time. Hope it went up at least a little, though.

CR was awful. Got an easy 800 the first time around but I wouldn’t be surprised if I failed it this time; passages were weirdddd and the vocab seemed harder.

Writing-- not too bad. Essay prompt was classic so hopefully aced that, and the sentences and stuff didn’t seem awful. Hoping my 740 goes up a little.

Since I’m a senior (only taken it once before) I’m hoping this went well because it’s my last chance. What are you guys anticipating for a curve?
