December 2012 - World History

What answers did you put down for the Gandhi question then? I don’t remember all of the options. Could someone post them?

Shi Huangdi is definitely drafting of farmers. If you read The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, it talks about the plight of the Qin citizens as all of the male peasants were taken away on building projects. Consequently, no one remained to feed the women and children, leading to famine and mass starvation.

Nooo. Qin shi huangdi is taxes if you look ANYWHERE on google, you’ll see. I’ll list a few sources:

[Qin Shi Huang - The First Emperor That United China - China Culture - China culture](http://history.cultural-china.com/en/46History223.html)
“he extorted excessive taxes and levies to construct Epang Palace and his mausoleum. Soon people revolted against the reign and the first unified feudal empire went to perdition within 15 years.”

[Shihuangdi’s Rule and the beginning of the Han Dynasty](Shihuangdi's Rule and the beginning of the Han Dynasty)
“Embittered aristocrats and oppressed intellectuals hated him, in part for his heavy taxation. And common people hated him for working them hard on his building projects. Fearing assassination, Shihuangdi had secret passages throughout his great palace and slept in a different palace apartment each night.”

[March of History: Qin Shi Huangdi, China’s First Emperor](MARCH of HISTORY by Richard Wall: Qin Shi Huangdi, China's First Emperor)
“His force of will remade China, but his dynasty barely out lived Qin Shi Hungdi. Oppressive leadership, ruinous taxes, palace intrigue and his early death, in 210 BCE, left the Empire ripe for revolt.”

[Mausoleum of Emperor Qinshihuang (259 BC- 210 BC)](Mausoleum of Emperor Qinshihuang (259 BC- 210 BC))
“After unification he adopted many measures to develop politics and the economy and consolidate centralization. Because of his tyranny and excessive tax collections the Qin Dynasty ended soon after his death.”

I’m pretty sure it’s taxes…

How about the influence of Christianity on tribes invading the Roman Empire 4th - 5th century AD?

^I left that one blank. But can I get a yes that the Medieval Warfare question was Armored Men on horses? They didn’t have artillery back then…

@Pomani - Something like “Nomads folded christianity into their lives but didn’t completely become Christian”

What did you put

And guys, I think the mask was definitely benin, i just googled “benin mask” and look what I found!
[Google Image Result for http://www.elanguages.org/images/44137%3F1214304203.7276](http://www.google.com/imgres?q=benin+mask&um=1&hl=en&safe=active&client=safari&sa=N&tbo=d&rls=en&biw=1274&bih=680&tbm=isch&tbnid=nNz69t62Sq_zMM:&imgrefurl=http://www.elanguages.org/43952&docid=M4KiZI5m26nFKM&imgurl=http://www.elanguages.org/images/44137%253F1214304203.7276&w=300&h=300&ei=RqC7UJW1PMrB0AHHooDIDg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=299&vpy=110&dur=2857&hovh=225&hovw=225&tx=165&ty=134&sig=103720155561621558427&page=1&tbnh=136&tbnw=125&start=0&ndsp=43&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0,i:94)

I put ‘were unaffected’ but it was one of those questions where I had absolutely no idea and needed to work through answers using logic. If we assume these tribes were Germanic then googling ‘Germanic tribe religion’ it just comes up with paganism.

@Jimjim - I also got armoured horses.

Gandhi one is that the wheel represented local business an shiz…

i could be wrong (im not a big military guy) but im pretty sure the answer was artillery. armored horses may have been used, but that would have been WAY TOO EXPENSIVE to become the “primary mode of attack”. plus, wikipedia article on medieval warfare mentions artillery. again, im not a historian, i’m not a military historian. i just think its pretty impractical to say that most wars were fought with armored horses when this ([Google Image Result for http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_aWflL2jDpWU/SY8OWStbbpI/AAAAAAAAD6c/W0Cn-USPrm8/s400/Armored+horse.jpg](http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_aWflL2jDpWU/SY8OWStbbpI/AAAAAAAAD6c/W0Cn-USPrm8/s400/Armored%2Bhorse.jpg&imgrefurl=http://mythandhope.blogspot.com/2009/02/chain-mail-and-changing-times.html&h=394&w=400&sz=44&tbnid=YwgwNh3AbswhMM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=91&zoom=1&usg=__YSHsJw40Qbz4pPuWa85v8ZI28BE=&docid=R5jRsyADA5e0vM&sa=X&ei=cLm7UIWoOOmF0QGO0YGQDQ&ved=0CD4Q9QEwAg&dur=476)) looks slightly expensive

From Wikipedia: Medieval warfare is the warfare of the Middle Ages. In Europe, technological, cultural, and social developments had forced a dramatic transformation in the character of warfare from antiquity, changing military tactics and the role of cavalry and artillery. In terms of fortification, the Middle Ages saw the emergence of the castle in Europe, which then spread to southwestern Asia.

pomani im pretty sure there was no real influence. if there was a bigger influence it would be more pronounced in our books and history courses.

gotcha on the benin mask, but how did u get that answer? like who studied mask types in their history courses? lol just more evidence that this test was much harder than CB practice tests

here’s another article that says horse armor was really rare:

horse armor was generally rarer, being reserved mainly for the elite heavy cavalry and predominantly for battle.

if you ask me, both answers could work. then again, the same is true for the majority of this test.

does anyone remember the correct answer for the “ruler with his/her country” question? i know one (wrong) answer was laos w/ ho chi minh. i don’t remember the right answer, but bc i was able to rule out ho chi minh i took a guess. anyone know the right answer??

@tlcmom - thanks for clearing that up.

No. It had to have been armor. Pistols were rare in the middle ages, let alone cannons. I think cannons started to be used in the late 15th, early 16th centuries.

Anyways, wasn’t the option, like armored men on horseback?

^^The Asian leader answer was Corazon Aquino and Philippines

That one was armoured horseback, no doubt about it. Artillery was introduced MUCH later down.
Also, I concur with the Corazon Aquino question. This one was ridiculously obvious, since none of the other choices made any sense.

OK. Good. Also, for the writing system pre 500 ad one, wouldn’t that have to be recorded history? I mean without writing - no records. It COULD be a ruling class, but with the option for recorded history, it HAD to be that right? An oral history is not recorded.

looks like an 800 for me! i skipped 3 and i think i missed around 6 or so. does anyone remember the tanzimat and portugal in brazil questions exactly? i dont remember those at all
