December 2014 ACT Discussion Thread

@FriendlyChemist‌
Do you remember the context of the semitransparent question? I can’t exactly remember which one I put haha

Hey guys! I just found this thread and was wondering if someone could help me!

So when I signed up for the act I chose 4 colleges to send my scores to for free, and for some (dumb) reason I chose two colleges to which I’ve already applied EA and ED to, so my scores won’t matter to them. I was trying to eliminate those two from my sending list online yesterday from the act website and tried to add two other colleges but it wouldn’t let me. I would get to the confirm page and then it would say error. Is it too late for me to change which colleges to send my scores automatically to? I just need to know because im getting anxious and I need to send my scores to all my RD colleges as soon as decisions are released and my life would be much easier if they would just send automatically. Should I call the act tomorrow? Can I do anything??

Btw, is it weird that this December act was easy to me compared to all the practice ACT tests I’ve taken? This was my first time so I hope I did good, it just seemed weird that it was rather easy. Did I probably do bad on it, lol? Any comments on this?

@fazeeeeeeel‌ All the sections were relatively easy except for the science. =(

I agree! I literally had a mental breakdown during the science section. The questions were worded so weirdly and made me lose concentration. I guessed on the last ten because I ran out of time :(( @Dynasty21‌

was I the only one that thought math was impossible? I am in advanced math and finished all the practice test sections early with scores above 32 and I ran out of time and had to guess the last few math. Way too many trig questions…

i thought the math was ridiculously hard, i had to guess on like 8 and another 5 i was not sure about 100%.

@Lindsay113 It was a very difficult math. Especially around the 40 question mark, where there were a ton of trick questions and tiny things you had to watch out for. I got all the way through it; I had to guess on one (the ellipse) and I guessed correctly.
The science, though, wow. I finished it about 3 minutes early but I had no clue how to work 2 of the questions on the spring passage, and there were other questions that I had to guess. The question regarding the spring’s length was a shot in the dark for me.
English was pretty normal, maybe a little bit harder than average.
The reading curve, however, is going to be very, very harsh. (one wrong = 34 probably)

Am I the only one thinks that English and Math are extremely easy this time? I got through all the questions 5 mins before the time is called.
Reading was a disaster… I run out of time and didn’t read the second to the last passage.
Science was like average to me

Jusy saying, I took last year December science and it was TOUGH. However, this test was quite easier(not super easy mind u but easier), so dont’t expect so generous a curve as some of you are hoping for. Sorry but im comparing the two and its not that close :frowning:

so which section is going to have the most generous curve?

wow…am i the only one who thought the science was easy? I was unsure of maybe one question…

@fazeeeeeeel Theres nothing you can do at this point. Just send it to the other two colleges by paying $12.

@1golfer1 Actually I dont think the reading curve will be that harsh. This was the first time two passages were paired on 1 page and assigned 10 questions, then you had to compare the passages. Since this is the first ACT that’s been in this format it should be a generous curve. Last Octobers science also had questions that required outside knowledge and there was no generous curve so I wouldnt expect one for this test either. Math will probably be generous though, since there were a lot more trig questions. (The ellipse question was really easy for me). English was average so no major curve there. Overall, I feel really good about the english section. Not too bad about Math since you can miss more and still have a score in the 30s. However, the reading and science section scare me because I know I may have missed a few on each, automatically setting me in the low 30s/high 20s.

@friendlychemist this isnt the first time there were two passeges paired on page. they have been doing this since before the june test…trust me, I would know.

@ivyhopefulebound‌ No it’s the first time that they put two pssages into 1 page and had 3 parts of sections: 1 for the first passage 2) the second passage and 3) competing the passages

When it comes to curves, I think this is what we’re looking at:

English: Average to harsh.
Math: Generous. I agree with previous posts, there was more trig than the four or so trig questions they tell you is on the test.
Reading: Average. Some difficult questions, but relatively average.
Science: Very generous. Multiple passages were very hard to understand what was being asked, and more than a few questions required outside knowledge.

Which student had the best science response???

Why were the shrubs placed next to each other??

I really just think we’ll have to wait for the scores to come out to determine curves. Opinions on the difficulty of this test are all over the place.

@ShaneBlakeEy‌ I’m not sure about the best response but the shrubs one is climate

all we can do is wait and see. if you’re a junior dont stress too much, you have more time. if you’re a senior…then just keep praying lol
