I didn’t take the December ACT, but I took the October one, and Science was really difficult. The curve was really generous though; I guessed on like the last 15 and still got a 26 on Science. Odds are if a lot of you guys found the Science to be difficult it probably was difficult and the curve will be generous. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Same with math.

@FriendlyChemist The double passage is not new, and there is a sample of it on the ACT website.
For curves, I’m just going off of what the test felt like to me. While I was taking the tests, my predictions for the ACTs in the red book (official guide), were very accurate.
For math, many people are going to get the last couple trig questions wrong, and the garden question set contained one difficult question. Some people didn’t know what to do with vectors. It’s going to be one wrong for a 36. Science will be similar – While it wasn’t impossible, there were many “thinking” and outside knowledge questions.
I am absolutely HORRIBLE at reading comp, but I had no problems whatsoever on the ACT reading this time. I even finished it early.

@FriendlyChemist sorry but its not new. Its been going on for more than half a year now the 3 sets of questions.

i am really hoping for a generous reading curve… i thought the other sections were relatively easy, though i am beginning to doubt myself after looking through this thread

@tlb150 last 3 passages weren’t that challenging.

does anybody think there is a chance we will be able to do the little hack thing to get our scores sooner? it did NOT work last test for anybody.

I thought the gyro passage was a little difficult

@gminor

Its nvr worked for me

Only passage on reading that I found hard was the one about the maps. The last question on the pssage about flowers and the official states was also really confusing. Almost all 4 answers made sense.

Lol I hated reading 1st passage. Tripped me up on time

that was a hard test

so what was the consensus on the last math question and the student with the best answer on candle

@ivyhopefulebound @ShaneBlakeEy Student 1 was correct because the candle undergoes a combustion reaction (burns in the presence of oxygen), which was what student 1 predicted. Student 4 thought the candle stored heat, which was not correct in reality. Unfortunately this question did require thermochem knowledge but I hope this helps :(

Be careful about what you discuss on here. ACT makes it pretty clear not to discuss this stuff. I don’t think college board cares too much though. I think general discussion is okay like score predictions, scale predictions, or difficulty. I thought that math and writing were very easy, but reading and science were very hard. Also, I only took 1 1/2 practice tests, and I’m usually good at math/writing but bad at reading/science.

I guessed on 11 science and 9+ reading.

So my impressions:
English was normal, with just one confusing/vague question.
Math was pretty challenging but do-able.
Reading was very straightforward and very minimal inferencing required. Everything could be found in the passages but I thought timing was a little tight.
Science required a lot of outside information. Personally I lucked out because I knew most of the outside knowledge necessary and the topics were right up my alley, but I think there will be room for a little error on this section.

I thought the essay prompt was awful.Too specific in scope (like not applicable to many people), yet too vague to argue about. Did anyone else feel this way?

@master1006 Man! I know, I hated that passage too, man! That was hard, man!

@medicaldreamer99 I loved the essay prompt. I didn’t even have to outline, that’s I comfortable I was with it.
However, I agree with you that the prompt was a bit different and hard to come up with concrete support.

My prompt was interesting. I didn’t have enough time to get my second example in so I did a refutation of a counterargument instead. D: I’m expecting a 7. Lol.

The essays are all about how well you can bs. I thought my essay was complete garbage for the October test and I somehow got a 10 lol.

so what was the last math question?
