***December 2015 SAT (US Only) Thread***

^for reading, that’s not possible; for writing, you had one experimental and one normal!

Consensus on the octopus? lol

@isuxatsat101 Oh no :frowning: I put “almost entirely” as the answer. Thank you for your explanation, though! Unfortunately, I can’t remember what the exact problem is but I’m quite sure it was no error

No error @Crzcorgi

@isuxatsat101 OMG I was so frustrated when I realize I had four sections of reading without being able to determine which one is the experimental. When I took it in May, I got an experimental on reading section and it was obvious because it has graphs and stuff. But this time, yes, two sections of 35 questions. It really drained me and I was so so so angry when I did the third section of reading. The experimental I got was about photography

For the rectangle perimeter question the answer was 35. They said the square had a perimeter of 40 with 2 rectangles inside and one rectangle had perimeter of 25.
Since the perimeter of the square is 40, each side was 10.
Since one rectangle had perimeter 25 and contained 2 sides of the triangle you could find its length by 10 + 10 + 2x = 25
The length of that rectangle equals 2.5.
Then you subtract the length of that rectangle by the length of the square(10) to get the length of the other rectangle. You’ll get 7.5 as the length and since that rectangle shared the width of the square, the perimeter was 7.5 + 7.5 + 10 + 10 which equals 35.
Sorry for being so unorganized I typed this from my crappy phone.

The experimental that I got was about some new species scientists are unable to classify into a group. I didn’t even know what an experimental section was until today. I’ve never taken the SAT’s. I’m in my senior year and I didn’t even study for this. I walked in blind. Which Ivy League school would be amazed at a 1400??? Maybe Yale??? #kms

@Wreckdecembersat Do not take my word for it! Half of this thread claims no error, while the other agrees with “almost entirely.” I’ve just heard those two words too often in scholarly articles, so I just went along with that. I’m probably wrong.

@ineffable How did you get 35?

@Wreckdecembersat There were too many readings; I drained myself out and lost complete concentration. I only became more focuses when my instructor yelled “5 minutes” and I rushed all my answers, doubted my previous answers. I did so bad.

@isuxatsat101 I just edited my post to explain it rn

@isuxatsat101
exactly the same!!! I’ve been preparing for a month and feel all the timing I did when I practice at home was completely futile when I was taking the test today. I was so nervous. It’s so hard to concentrate and yeah I was to frustrated to concentrate as well! And yeah I wonder what school I can get into with the score I will have on this test… What schools are you looking into?

fingers crossed, I’m only expecting a 700 on reading now due to the overwhelming amount of information I had to take in on those four reading sections that exhausted the hell out of me! :frowning:

sendinghugss!!

does anyone remember the question on the train passage about something like people’s impressions of trains? was it like transcending time and space or something like that

@ineffable Wow. That is what I started off with, but I kept 7.5 doubled which gave me 15. I thought the perimeter had to be 15 bc when you add that to 25, you get 40. But, when I realized that you don’t count the inside so it didn’t really matter if the value was greater than 40, I ran out of time. :frowning: But thank you for the explanation.

@Wreckdecembersat Yup the timing really is a b****. I’m envious of those who get extended time. What did you get on your previous score? Hmm… Because of all the ongoing issues I faced during my high school years, I did not put forth my fullest potential academic wise so I kept my interest in colleges realistic for me to get into. I also applied to A LOT lol. Multiple SUNY Campuses: Buffalo, Old Westbury, Stony Brook, Potsdam, Albany, and Binghamton, Syracuse, Rutgers, Penn State, College Park (MD), Uconn, West Haven, UMass (boston), Marymount, St. John’s, LIU, and finally Wells. None schools of HIGH prestige, why embarrass myself ha. I fear rejection, and I feel strongly that I will get denied by more than half of those schools based on their averages. However, I would prefer taking the chances rather than always pondering on “what if I actually would have gotten in?” I think that I have a good background and story that explains the circumstances and not so great grades! But, all these schools have a great pre-med program and I genuinely am satisfied with the academics, student body life, location, organizations, and opportunities offered. Syracuse and Albany are my top choices. Where are you looking to apply at?

When you study at home, it’s always great to make sure you take all the time you need to fully understand the concept and pattern of the questions. Once you feel confident, you need to start timing yourself. Get used to the fast paced thinking and problem solving.

Especially with the math, (my worst subject, I haven’t taken math since freshmen year so it’s all in the back of my head) you need to find the quickest, and most simple way of figuring out the answer. I’m much better with the reading; I find that reading articles of all topics often improves your comprehension and analysis. When you are reading the passages in the SAT, it’s best to fully grasp the material and convince yourself that the topic is something you are really interested in. When you find that you enjoy what you are reading, you will certainly find progress! And ALWAYS answer the question first in your head before looking at the answers. I can not express how much this has helped me in the last 4 years of my life. I was under a great ordeal of pressure this morning, so I didn’t apply my strategies because I kept getting nervous and rushing myself. Also, some idiot cheated on the test and got thrown out, thus distracting everyone. That’s 4 minutes that could have helped me! And my phone kept going off thanks to my mother, so I was anticipating the next break to shut it off. Ughhh well at least I have these two good months or less to study for January’s. Judging from everyone’s responses here, it’s supposed to be really difficult since it’s right before March?

@Wreckdecembersat What were the other choices? Or you don’t remember?

@joeweller yikes. I put compared to that of as the error… But not even because of compared. I thought “that of” should have been “those of” bc it was being compared to a plural subject haha whoops

@isuxatsat101 I’m in same situation as you, I didn’t put any real effort into school until junior year. And I’ve been doing whatever this year since I know colleges won’t see my grades

Hey for that Octopus question, isn’t the wrong answer that of? b/c you are saying compared to that of some mammals. Shouldn’t it be those of some mammals?
